sHaROn DUDlEY-bROWn, pHD, Fnp-bC<br />
Sharon Dudley-Brown currently has a joint appointment as an Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor at Johns<br />
Hopkins University, in the Schools <strong>of</strong> Medicine & <strong>Nursing</strong> and is also the Co-Director <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Nurse Practitioner <strong>Fellows</strong>hip Program in Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Johns Hopkins. She<br />
sees patients and conducts research on patients with inflammatory bowel disease.<br />
Dr. Dudley-Brown has held several academic appointments, both nationally and <strong>international</strong>ly,<br />
and has worked as a Nurse Practitioner at several institutions over the past 25 years. She has<br />
published several peer-reviewed papers and abstracts in the fields <strong>of</strong> nursing, inflammatory<br />
bowel disease and ulcerative colitis, and is currently a member <strong>of</strong> several editorial boards,<br />
including Gastroenterology <strong>Nursing</strong> Journal, where she is the <strong>new</strong>ly appointed on-line editor.<br />
She is a co-editor <strong>of</strong> a recent textbook on translation in evidence-based practice, entitled<br />
“Translation <strong>of</strong> evidence into nursing and health care practice,” published by Springer.<br />
In addition, Dr. Dudley-Brown is a member <strong>of</strong> five pr<strong>of</strong>essional societies, including the Society<br />
<strong>of</strong> Gastrointestinal Nurses and Associates (SGNA), and the <strong>American</strong> Gastroenterological<br />
Association (AGA), where she serves as the only non-physician provider on the Education and<br />
Training Committee. Additionally, she is a member <strong>of</strong> the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation <strong>of</strong><br />
America (CCFA), serving on the National <strong>Nursing</strong> Initiatives Committee, as well as on her local<br />
Medical Advisory Committee.<br />
JEannE gEigER-bROWn, pHD, Rn<br />
Jeanne Geiger-Brown is Assistant Dean <strong>of</strong> Research and Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the University <strong>of</strong><br />
Maryland School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong>.<br />
Dr. Geiger-Brown is a nurse scientist whose research is at the intersection <strong>of</strong> occupational<br />
epidemiology, cognitive science and sleep medicine. She studies work schedules & sleep<br />
deficiency, occupational sleep disorders, and screening for sleep disorders in occupational<br />
settings. She also conducts intervention research to assist individuals and organizations to<br />
improve the quantity and quality <strong>of</strong> sleep achieved by workers.<br />
Dr. Geiger-Brown’s research has been translated in ways that raise public awareness about<br />
fatigue among workers with shiftwork and extended work hours. It has also informed changes<br />
in scheduling practices and policy in several health care settings. Her research contributed to<br />
portions <strong>of</strong> the National Occupational Research Agenda for CDC/NIOSH, and assisted NIOSH<br />
to modify an educational product for nurses engaged in shiftwork and extended work hours.<br />
ElizabEtH JORDan, DnsC, Rn<br />
Elizabeth “Betty’ Jordan is the Associate Director <strong>of</strong> the Johns Hopkins University Global mHealth<br />
Initiative (JHU GmI). She serves as program evaluation consultant for the nationalText4Baby<br />
program, the first free mobile health service in the United States. She has over 28 years <strong>of</strong> clinical<br />
experience and significant research expertise in labor and birth, and is a recognized <strong>international</strong><br />
nursing leader in maternal and <strong>new</strong>born outcomes research, education and practice.<br />
Dr. Jordan holds a joint appointment in the Department <strong>of</strong> International Health at the Johns<br />
Hopkins School <strong>of</strong> Public Health and is part <strong>of</strong> a research team developing protocols for a funded<br />
<strong>international</strong> mHealth study aimed at testing specific interventions that optimize the delivery <strong>of</strong><br />
efficacious antenatal and postpartum interventions through innovative mHealth tools, during critical<br />
windows <strong>of</strong> time during the pregnancy continuum. Dr. Jordan also serves as the director <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Johns Hopkins School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> Baccalaureate program. The School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> recognized her<br />
exemplary clinical and teaching skills with the 2005 Dean’s award for excellence.<br />
Dr. Jordan has extensive publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at regional,<br />
national and <strong>international</strong> conferences. She served on the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors <strong>of</strong> the Association<br />
<strong>of</strong> Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and the Board for the Healthy Mothers/<br />
Healthy Babies Coalition. She maintains a clinical practice with the Baltimore City Health<br />
Department, reviewing infant and fetal deaths. Dr. Jordan was recognized as one <strong>of</strong> the “Top<br />
100 Women in Maryland” for her dedication and service to Maryland in helping address the<br />
issue <strong>of</strong> poor birth outcomes.
