TIPS FOR PLANNING THE HOLIDAYS:<br />
For people with dementia, leaving familiar surroundings<br />
can be confusing and stressful. You<br />
might want to try short outings first to see how it<br />
goes.<br />
• Think about how you decorate. Blinking lights and<br />
certain other decorations can be very confusing.<br />
Avoid artificial fruits, etc. that could be mistaken<br />
for real and eaten.<br />
• Large numbers of people, all at once, can be very<br />
confusing. Try to limit the number of people visiting<br />
at one time.<br />
Remember that people with Alzheimer's tend to tire<br />
easily and those in advanced stages may not be<br />
aware of the exact holiday being celebrated. The<br />
best idea is to try and enjoy your loved one as<br />
much as possible during the holidays.<br />
