Definition of sarcoidosis
• Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic disorder of
unknown aetiology characterized by a
heightened helper T cell type 1 (Th1) immune
response at sites of disease activity and by the
presence of noncaseating granulomas.
– Occurs in all age groups, preferably in young and
middle-aged adults, peaking in those 20 ~ 29 yr old
– The prevalence varies from < 1 ~ 40 / 100,000
