What is OIP Technology?<br />

� Open Interface Portal (OIP) technology is a<br />

software architecture that allows for a<br />

standardized specification of the interaction<br />

between the <strong>Data</strong> System and an instrument.<br />

� This allows for the development of an instrument<br />

―driver‖ that can be added to Empower <strong>Software</strong><br />

without changing the core application.<br />

� OIP technology is separate from the physical<br />

connectivity (serial, ethernet, USB, IEEE-488)<br />

Third Party Instrument Control in Empower 3<br />

<strong>Waters</strong> policy is to notify their software partners when a new informatics<br />

software product is under development. The Empower 3 team has notified all of<br />

our partners about Empower 3 and has offered beta software for use in testing<br />

/development of ICS software, for Empower 3.<br />

To date not all vendors have requested Empower 3 beta or released software.<br />

We have recently reminded our partners that the release of Empower 3 software<br />

and we would like to offer our mutual support of their products. We will contact<br />

our partners again.<br />

Please refer users who are requesting third party instrument control to the<br />

appropriate vendors to request support of these instruments in Empower 3.<br />
