E. Youth Activities Area and Childrens Playground
A steep, planted embankment separates the Baywalk from the Youth Activities
Area. The steepness of the bank has led to some erosion and the failed
planting requires further consideration.
The Children’s Playground complements the Youth Activities Area and
encourages family use of the zone. A grassed area separates the playground
and the Youth Activites Area, providing an appropriate balance between
separation and proximity. Some attention to slope erosion may be required in
the playground.
Additional facilities for picnics and barbeques would be desirable while the
second stage of the development of the Youth Activities Area should be
pursued (refer Stategic Projects).
E. Youth Activities Area & Children's Playground
Key Recommendations
Current usage and programming is successful and should be maintained.
Continue to support youth-based recreation activity and facilities on the waterfront including the development of the second stage of the Youth Activities
Area.
Specifi c Actions
Address erosion of the embankment between the Youth Activities Area and the Baywalk.
Retain and protect the grassed area between the children's play area and the Youth Activities Area and consider alternative slope retention methods in the
children's playground to overcome existing erosion problems.
Investigate the provision of a free barbeque, picnic and shelter facilities adjacent to the Youth Activities Area and playground.
Install a retaining wall at the edge of the Baywalk which can double as seating, replanting the embankment behind the retaining wall.
