13 Marble Top Chest:<br />

A diminutive banded inlaid chest, fitted with<br />

three drawers with gilt bronze hardware. The<br />

chest has a shaped apron with with a foli<strong>at</strong>e<br />

and urn gilt bronze mount, and is raised on<br />

elegant cabriole legs.<br />

An original French colored poster seamed <strong>at</strong> center<br />

from two part.<br />

Bruant and Lautrec shared a mutual admir<strong>at</strong>ion for<br />

each other, and Bruant was the first performer to<br />

ask Lautrec to design a poster for him. The result<br />

is one of the simplest and most powerful music<br />

hall posters ever designed. Cre<strong>at</strong>ed with the four<br />

primary colors and Lautrec’s cherished green, it<br />

depicts Bruant in his costume, black h<strong>at</strong>, red scarf<br />

and black cape coming out of the wings, where<br />

we can see three lights and the black shadow of<br />

a stage hand. At Bruant’s insistence the poster<br />

was plastered all over Paris, despite the the<strong>at</strong>er<br />

manager’s intense dislike of it (he referred to as<br />

“a revolting mess”). The bold, forceful design of<br />

the cabaret star captures the performer’s famed<br />

arrogance. Bruant went on to become Lautec’s<br />

biggest client, commissioning three other posters<br />

from him. Th poster was drawn on two stones<br />

but “with some impressions printed on one (like<br />

this example) and some on two sheets of paper.”<br />

Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa or simply Henri<br />

de Toulouse-Lautrec (French pronunci<strong>at</strong>ion: [ɑ̃ʁi də tuluz loˈtʁɛk]; 24<br />

November 1864 – 9 September 1901) was a French painter, printmaker,<br />

draughtsman, and illustr<strong>at</strong>or, whose immersion in the colourful and<br />

the<strong>at</strong>rical life of Paris in the l<strong>at</strong>e 1800s yielded a collection of exciting,<br />

elegant and provoc<strong>at</strong>ive images of the modern and sometimes<br />

decadent life of those times. Toulouse-Lautrec is known along with<br />

Cézanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin as one of the gre<strong>at</strong>est painters of<br />

the Post-Impressionist period. In a 2005 auction <strong>at</strong> Christie’s auction<br />

house a new record was set when La blanchisseuse, an early painting<br />

of a young laundress, sold for $22.4 million U.S.[1]<br />

2. The c<strong>at</strong>alog listings are a courtesy, meant as a descriptive guide only. The buyer is cautioned to use the preview to examine all merchandise and<br />

to use his/her best judgment as to whether or not the descriptions are accur<strong>at</strong>e.<br />

3. Title transfers to the customer <strong>at</strong> the fall of the hammer subject to the provisions above. From th<strong>at</strong> moment on, the auctioneer will accept no<br />

returns except as outlined herein. Please be sure you are bidding on the correct item and have examined it carefully before placing a bid.<br />

4. The auctioneer reserve the right to refuse any and all bids, <strong>at</strong> his sole discretion, whether or not a reserve is in place and will be the sole arbiter in<br />

any dispute. The auctioneer, if he chooses may re-offer any disputed lot.<br />

5. Bids which are submitted to <strong>Peachtree</strong> & <strong>Bennett</strong>, LLC in writing prior to the auction, for execution <strong>at</strong> or below a specified price (absentee or<br />

telephone bids), shall be entered and executed for the convenience of bidders not present <strong>at</strong> the auction. <strong>Peachtree</strong> & <strong>Bennett</strong>, will not be held<br />

responsible for failing to execute such bids, or for any errors rel<strong>at</strong>ing to the execution of such bids.<br />

6. In the event th<strong>at</strong> the authorship of a work of art is expressly st<strong>at</strong>ed in the c<strong>at</strong>alog as genuine, we will accept a return of any item th<strong>at</strong> is proven<br />

inauthentic, within fourteen (14) days of the d<strong>at</strong>e of the auction, unless otherwise st<strong>at</strong>ed and written explan<strong>at</strong>ion of such noted expert. Please use<br />

this time to have such an item examined by a recognized expert.<br />

7. Rug purchase is by CASH, MONEY ORDER, or CERTIFIED CHECK ONLY. Unless written arrangements are made PRIOR to the auction.<br />

8. A Buyers Premium of 18% will be added to the hammer price of each lot paid using a credit card, (3% discount offered to purchases paid by cash<br />

or check). Georgia St<strong>at</strong>e Sales Tax of 8% will be added to the purchase price of all items unless a valid St<strong>at</strong>e Resale Certific<strong>at</strong>e if presented <strong>at</strong> the<br />

time of registr<strong>at</strong>ion. Please bid accordingly.<br />

9. Purchases must be removed from the within five (5) business days following the d<strong>at</strong>e of the auction, or they will become subject to a storage<br />

charge of $10.00 per day/ per item. <strong>Peachtree</strong> & <strong>Bennett</strong>, LLC will not be held responsible for loss of damage to items left on the premises beyond<br />

the five - business day grace period.<br />

10. Payment is expected within 72 hrs and all items must be paid for within 5 business days of the auction. <strong>Peachtree</strong> & <strong>Bennett</strong> will notify all winning<br />

bidders within 48 hours of the end of said auction. P&B reserves the right to hold items paid by check until the check clears. There is a handling<br />

charge of $25.00 for dishonored checks. If payment is not made within the 7 day time frame, the Visa or MasterCard provided by the bidder before<br />

auction start will be autom<strong>at</strong>ically charged.<br />

11. All purchases must be paid in full the day of the sale unless prior arrangements have been made with the owners.<br />

12.<strong>Peachtree</strong> & <strong>Bennett</strong> will provide the names of local shippers with whom the purchaser may deal directly. Payment must have been received and<br />

checks cleared prior to the release of property for shipping. Please see shipping instructions for details.<br />
