Take unused paint, used oils, and other harmful substances to proper
disposal sites. Never dump them into storm drains, ditches, streams
or rivers.
If possible direct roof downspouts away from drain tiles or storm
drains and onto permeable surfaces such as grass or gravel.
On the Driveway
Stop oil and transmission leaks and place a drip pan under your car.
Wash cars on gravel or grass, if possible, and use a minimum amount
of soap.
Sweep driveways; hosing will carry garbage, dirt and leaf litter into
the storm drains.
Consider using porous asphalts or paving stones rather than paving
your driveway and patio. This will help reduce urban run-off.
In General
Keep litter, trash, and garden waste out of streams and storm drains.
Keep pets out of streams. Pet waste is pollution and animals can
erode banks and disrupt fish living in the stream.
