gold medal<br />
The EMBO Gold Medal is awarded annually to a young life scientist for exceptional research<br />
carried out in Europe. Widely regarded as the most prestigious award of its kind, the prize<br />
highlights the standards being reached in molecular biology research in Europe and brings<br />
the very best young scientists to the attention of a global audience.<br />
The 2006 winner was Frank Uhlmann, Head of<br />
the Chromosome Segregation Laboratory at<br />
Cancer Research UK’s London Research Institute.<br />
Uhlmann was honoured for his landmark<br />
work on the cell cycle, in particular his discovery<br />
of the trigger for mitosis, which holds great<br />
