Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As we look towards a new year for our
AAFP Foundation, I hope you are as
encouraged as I am by the Foundation’s
many achievements in 2011. It’s been a time of
great activity, both in terms of launching new
programs, supporting the specialty of Family
Medicine, and continuing the good work
that means so much to people in need. For the third year in a row,
the AAFP Foundation has received a four-star rating from Charity
Navigator — its highest rating possible!
As your new Foundation president, I’m honored to do my part to
continue this important work for Family Medicine through programs
like Family Medicine Cares. This major new humanitarian program

will have a lasting impact on improving the health of the uninsured
in our communities and will shine a light on the heart and
importance of Family Medicine.
As you read the following articles about the Foundation’s recent
activities, remember that these achievements have only been
possible through your generosity. Thank you so much for your
continuing support – we hope to make an even bigger impact in
2012 and beyond. It’s inspiring to see what great work is possible
with our efforts combined. I look forward to the future of the
Foundation and the remarkable work that will be accomplished

2012 Save the Date for Your AAFP Foundation
Mark your calendars for the following
AAFP Foundation activities surrounding
the Congress of Delegates (October
14-17) and the AAFP Scientific Assembly
(October 16-20) this Fall.
Join us for a celebratory evening under
the attentive eye of Benjamin Franklin
himself at the AAFP Foundation Annual
Recognition Dinner on Thursday,
October 18, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Each
year during Scientific Assembly, the AAFP
Foundation hosts a special dinner for its
most dedicated donors, during which
the Philanthropist of the Year Award,
Outstanding Program Award, and AAFP
Outstanding Service Award are presented.
This year’s Recognition Dinner will be held
at the Franklin Institute Science Museum
under the Benjamin Franklin National
Memorial — a 20 foot statue of Benjamin
Franklin which rises beneath an 82 foot
domed ceiling and gold gilded oculus.
