CROSSPOINT FOOD PANTRY ....by Shawna Raymond
Pantry hours: First, Third and Fifth Saturdays 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
JUNE 27—JULY 1, 2012
PAGE 13
Last year the CrossPoint Ignite Student Ministries built a raised garden bed and planted
seeds so our Food Pantry Friends could have access to fresh vegetables. This year, the students would like to turn
that project over to another group of volunteers. The Friends who use the Food Pantry will be the primary volunteer
helpers in the garden, but we welcome anyone who wants to help. The garden is located behind the Food Pantry
in the grassy area between the parsonage and parking lot of the Rutherford Campus, 6570 Mifflin Ave., Harrisburg,
PA 17111.
Volunteers will sign up to work in the garden planting seeds, pulling weeds, harvesting, and watering, if necessary.
All of the harvest will be donated to the CrossPoint Food Pantry. There are 22 weeks from spring to fall. So we need
22 individuals or families to each take a slot. You can show up any time during your week. Shawna Raymond has
agreed to plan the garden and coordinate the volunteer schedule. With everyone working a little bit, it won’t require
much time from any of us. To volunteer, sign up on the Communication Card and we will contact you. Here is our
“Wish List” of donations to get us started:
Tools—compost, shovel, hand trowel, cultivator, pruner, bucket, plant markers, stakes/trellis, scissors, twine, neon
orange duct tape, bags for weeds, bags for harvest
Summer Seeds/Plants—Basil, Onions, Scallions, Carrots, Green Peppers, Green Beans, Zucchini, Marigolds,
Tomatoes
Fall Seeds/Plants—Spinach, Lettuce, Kale
For May, the Food Pantry is in need of paper goods such as toilet paper, tissue, napkins, and paper towels.
1 ST SUNDAY BREAKFAST
Almost as special as breakfast in bed is FIRST SUNDAY BREAKFAST with the
YOUTH. We have enjoyed providing breakfast to the church and have enjoyed the support
from all campuses. Your generosity as well as your encouragement has meant a lot.
Join us on May 6 th for the last first breakfast of this school year. We are hoping to have a
lot of your favorites on hand as we celebrate not only parents and grandparents but our sisters and brothers in the
faith.
Can you believe it – As of May 1 st there are only 57 days until CREATION !!
We have had a cost reduction due to an anonymous very generous family who is
underwriting the cost of food for CREATION. Here is the good news – We still
have 4 tickets left. That’s right 57 days to go and we only have 4 tickets left. They
are on a first come first serve basis. If you have already signed up your final payment is due by May 30 th. This will
ensure that all arrangements can be made before we leave for this year’s mission trip. Please contact Jio Hardy at
nanajio@verizon.net to reserve your space. The cost is $125 for students and adults and $54.00 for children 6 and
older.
