In <strong>2001</strong> we launched a new, three-year Power Smart campaign<br />

called the Home Energy Learning program – or h.e.l.p. This program<br />

is designed to provide <strong>BC</strong> <strong>Hydro</strong> residential customers with<br />

information, education and incentives to help them save energy<br />

and money.<br />

Although B.C.’s electricity prices have not increased since 1993,<br />

and remain among the lowest in North America, natural gas<br />

prices have increased substantially. While <strong>BC</strong> <strong>Hydro</strong> is not<br />

responsible for natural gas increases, we recognize the impact<br />

these increases are having on our customers who heat their<br />

homes and businesses using natural gas. We want to be a<br />

part of the energy solution.<br />

<strong>BC</strong> <strong>Hydro</strong>’s Power Smart Home Energy Profile, an online tool,<br />

is a component of our h.e.l.p. program. Customers can visit<br />

www.bchydro.com, type in information about their home, and<br />

Schroeder Properties Ltd. is partnering with <strong>BC</strong> <strong>Hydro</strong> to ensure<br />

its new high-tech park is truly Power Smart. The proposed<br />

$500-million development, called Tech Park, is the first and<br />

largest fully-integrated, advanced-technology business park<br />

in North America.<br />

With annual energy costs of over $2 million, Vancouver<br />

International Airport Authority management needed to know<br />

specific information about its electric consumption. Without<br />

detailed information, management was finding it difficult to<br />

make budgeting decisions or identify and address energy<br />

inefficiencies. Our Load Analysis experts closely monitored the<br />

receive a personalized report providing recommendations for<br />

reducing power consumption. Tens of thousands of our customers<br />

have visited our Web site to learn how to lower their energy costs.<br />

For customers seeking assistance in implementing energysaving<br />

upgrades, we continue to offer the Power Smart<br />

Home Improvements program (HIP). This program enables<br />

<strong>BC</strong> <strong>Hydro</strong>-registered contractors to carry out upgrades to our<br />

customers’ homes. As well, we have a Power Smart New Home<br />

program and Product Endorsement program to deliver the<br />

benefits of Power Smart to our residential customers.<br />

<strong>BC</strong> <strong>Hydro</strong>’s commercial and industrial customers will also<br />

benefit from Power Smart solutions. Energy audits will be<br />

conducted in schools and hospitals, helping them implement<br />

energy-saving initiatives. Industrial customers will also be<br />

encouraged to embark on energy-efficient upgrades.<br />

We will work with each park tenant to provide customized<br />

Power Smart solutions to address their specific power and<br />

power quality needs. Each tenant will be able to select from<br />

a menu of tenant improvement options, such as enhanced<br />

lighting design, critical power protection, and metering and<br />

monitoring solutions.<br />
