Trinity To Receive New Members In November 

Please call the church office (934-4786) to let us know if you are 

interested in joining our Trinity Family. We invited those planning 

on joining to attend an orientation meeting on Wednesday, November 

2 at 6:30 pm at which you will have the opportunity to 

learn more about Trinity and its history and ministries, as well as 

to ask questions of your own. On Tuesday, November 8, from 

5:30 – 7 pm we will gather for some fun and fellowship in the Gustafson 

Fellowship Hall for a pot-luck supper. On Sunday, November 

13, we will “officially” receive these individuals/families into our 

church family here at Trinity at our 9:30 am worship service!

Holiday Vouchers 

The St. Peter Area Foodshelf and the St. Peter Area Ministerial 

Association will again be providing groceries to needy families in 

our community over the holiday season. Last year, vouchers 

were provided for over 1,500 adults and children. Needy persons 

are identified by churches and public agencies. This information 

is kept in the strictest confidence. 

Vouchers are distributed between the end of November and the 

beginning of December and are issued according to family size 

and age distribution. Should you be aware of someone in need, 

please contact Bonnie in the church office with this information. 

Because of increasing need, the Ministerial Association has a goal 

of $6,000. Last year the Food shelf more than matched this 

amount. We hope to raise $1,500 at Trinity to put toward people 

in need and we’ve already exceeded our goal! Thank you for your 

generosity. We are blessed to be a blessing! 

Pastors Accept Hair-Removing Challenge 

Pastors Natwick and Christensen have accepted the challenge 

that if 40 new families subscribe to the Simply Giving Program 

each will allow his head to be shaved. This may occur at a Congregational 

Celebration Dinner which will be held at 12:00 noon 

on Sunday, November 20 th .

Celebration Dinner Planned 

For Trinity 

In thanksgiving and celebration of pledges and 

gifts received to support God’s Work among us, 

all members of Trinity are invited to a congregational 

dinner at 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 

20 th . This is a free event although donations 

of support will be accepted. Should we have 40 

new Simply Giving subscribers, the pastors will 

submit to the razor! Come, have some fun with 

us!

Mid-Week Advent Services 

How can this be? Promoting our Mid-Week Advent 

Services in November? And yet, this year 

our first Wednesday evening service takes place 

on November 30 at 6:30pm. Each Wednesday 

evening at 6:30pm on the Wednesdays between 

Thanksgiving and Christmas (Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 

14, 21) we will gather together for 40 minutes of 

quiet and reflection to aid us preparing heart and 

mind for the coming of the Christ Child. We will 

be using the much-loved Holden Evening Prayer 

at each service. Bring yourselves, your families, 

and your friends for this special time of rest and 

renewal.

PASTOR’S 

CORNER 

CrossBeams (from Pastor C.’s study) 

May I just briefly summarize some items of information 

that you may appreciate. 

Organ Update: We are making excellent fund 

raising progress and are moving into the last 

$5,000 to make our full goal. The organ console 

may be delivered in November, however we are 

unsure of a full installation date. Depending upon 

the availability of our builder, we may get the installation 

done by year’s end. However, I think it 

more likely it will be early 2012. The installation 

will take three to four weeks to complete. 

NEWS FLASH! The goal has been met. Any 

additional funds contributed will help fund the improvements 

to the sanctuary sound and video 

broadcasts. 

Sanctuary Sound Systems: We recently discovered 

a number of problems with our sound amplification 

system in the sanctuary. These have been 

addressed and corrected. We should notice the 

improvements. The Williams system for those 

experiencing hearing difficulties are currently nonfunctional 

as none of our receivers is in working 

order. The transmitter is working and we have 

resolved the issues of interference from a neighboring 

congregation’s system. We will need to 

purchase new or repair the receivers. 

Video Broadcast: We occasionally receive complaints 

about the quality of the broadcast of our 

worship service. For the most part, these problems 

are network issues beyond our control. 

However, the city is upgrading their community 

access system. We will likely have to likewise 

upgrade our video capacity. However, the result, 

we hope, will be significant improvements in the 

video/sound quality of the broadcast. 

Rental Properties: As you may have heard, the 

St. Peter Area Food Shelf has moved to a new 

location as their distribution practices have 

changed and they needed a one-level facility. 

The former Food Shelf house is currently being “re 

-modeled” to become a very nice rental unit. Trinity 

now owns and rents, the two homes located on 

our city block. We have retained the services of a 

manager who will handle all matters related to 

these two properties. The former Food Shelf � 

� . . . House will be available, we hope, by early November. 

Should you or someone you know be interested in either of these 

units, call the Church Office for a referral to the manager. 

Sanctuary Lighting: We receive frequent complaints about 

“dark spots” in our sanctuary lighting, making it difficult for persons 

in some areas to read their bulletins or hymnals. We hope 

to improve this problem with two ranks of track lighting which 

will adapt to our current system and are inexpensive. Hopefully, 

this will provide significant improvement. We are awaiting 

the electrician’s availability. 

Retirement: Lynn Davey, our long-time, financial secretary, 

recently announced to congregational leadership her intent to 

retire in the spring of 2012. This will mean re-consideration by 

congregational leadership of the office staff configuration and 

then, of course, a new employee who will need training and 

orientation. Our congregational leaders are appreciative of the 

advance notice which will help us in a reasoned reconsideration 

of future needs. 

Kitchen Training: Recently the MN Department of Health has 

required that persons working in church kitchens receive training 

in health and sanitation practices. We have had the good 

fortune of having a good number of our parishioners who have 

participated in this training. We will have to abide by some new 

rules and standards which, overall, I believe is a very good 

thing. Food-borne illnesses and infections can be life threatening. 

We will struggle with a bit of discomfort in conforming to 

new standards but make the upgrades necessary for the protection 

of all of us and our guests at Trinity. 

So we move now, to the THANKING MONTH of November and 

transition into colder temperatures and snow-readiness. Grace 

and Gratitude – they go together like love and marriage, horse 

and carriage! In fact the words have the same roots and origins. 

It is no accident that we say “grace” at mealtime (at least, 

most of us still do). It is also no accident that the central event 

of our worship, the Holy Communion, is called the Great 

Thanksgiving. If ever there were a people of Thanksgiving, 

surely it is us Christians – graced and grateful. Indeed, thanks 

be to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nov. Is Name Tag Month 

On Sunday, November 13, new members will be 

received into our congregation. To honor that 

event, we encourage everyone to find and wear 

their name tags for the entire month! If yours 

has been lost, notify the church office and a new 

one will be made for you. The nametags make 

it easier for our new members to get to know us, 

as well as for us to know them! Let’s make this 

an opportunity for all of us to get to know more 

of our Trinity family.

catalogs from Lutheran World Relief, 

ELCA Missions, Heifer International, as well as 

some special holiday “Divine Chocolate” items. 

Make your gifts a gift of sharing with others 

around the world. 

The catalogs are available on the table outside 

the Gustafson Fellowship Hall. You may borrow 

one for a week or so, but kindly return them for 

others to use.

ADULT FORUM November Agenda 

Nov 6 There will be a showing of the documentary “Pray the Devil Back to Hell.” This is action taken by women in 

Liberia to bring peace to a warring nation. Two of the women involved in this action were recently awarded 

the Nobel peace prize. 

Nov 13 Nicole Griensewic will be presenting the story of Habitat for Humanity. Trinity people are quite involved and 

are looking forward to continuing building one house a year in or near St. Peter. 

Nov 20 Pastor Christensen will be presenting on the topic “Reading the Bible for All the Wrong Reasons.” 

Nov 27 Donna Green will be presenting on the topic “If I die tomorrow, what you need to know.” This is especially a 

matter that spouses need to know.

WOMEN 

Thanks For Gathering 

Trinity Women hosted a very successful Fall Gathering 

in October. Thank you so very much to each 

one of you who helped in any way to make things 

run so smoothly. Our volunteers took care of the 

registration, served as ushers, set up the lovely tables, 

prepared food for the lunch, served the lunch 

and helped clean up when it was over. 

Brenda Moore gave an inspirational message comparing 

membership to discipleship which was very 

well received by all. The business meeting and the 

training sessions for officers were held. 

22 Personal Care Kits and 14 Baby Care Kits were 

brought for in-kind offerings. These have been delivered 

to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse. 

The monetary offering received was divided equally 

between the SW MN Synod Women of the ELCA 

and LWR for shipping costs. 

Many thanks to all who offered to help. You made a 

great day! 

December Advent Event 

Plans are being made to have a unique Advent 

event. Our custom has been to have an Advent 

brunch in a lovely Christmas setting with program, 

songs and good food. On December 10, we will 

have all of the same but done a little differently. We 

will come for coffee and special Christmas cookies, 

breads and treats in the decorated Gustafson room. 

We will have time to visit, enjoy snacks, relax in one 

another’s company and feel the spirit of Christmas. 

The program will be very special! The Kingery Family 

will be putting on a concert in the sanctuary. 

Mike, Chris and their eight children will play and sing 

for us. This family of six girls and two boys (and 

now a son-in-law and a granddaughter) have made 

this a musical ministry for the glory of God. You 

won’t want to miss it. 

Because of the Kingery’s program we are inviting 

families to come, not just the women of the church. 

We want this to be open to everyone in the church 

and the community. Women of Trinity, would you 

be willing to share some of your special Christmas 

baking (rosettes, krumkaka, spritz, nut breads, etc.) 

to serve that morning? You will be receiving more 

information about this in the following weeks.

The documentary “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” was shown as the program 

for the evening. 

A Gift Means A Great Deal 

Once again we are sponsoring a drive for Christmas gifts for the St. Peter 

Regional Treatment Center. Last year 70% of the patients in the program 

for the chronically mentally ill had no contact with family over the 

holidays. A gift, no matter how large or small, makes a difference. 

Gift donations can be new or used, with the exception of personal 

grooming and food items. Suggested toiletries include toothpaste, toothbrush, 

shaving lotion, deodorant, cologne, hand lotion, hair brushes or 

combs and bath powder. Suggested clothing items for men and women 

are T-shirts, underwear, pajamas, nightgowns, robes, slippers, jeans, 

sweaters, flannel shirts, gloves/mittens, hats/scarves, sweatshirts/ 

sweatpants, socks, tennis shoes or shower sandals. Suggested personal 

gifts include candy-also diabetic, writing tablets, stationery, pens, 

stamps, books, cassette tapes, CD’s and DVD’s, billfolds, purses, duffle 

bag, wristwatches, jewelry, alarm clock, Walkman, games, bath towels 

and decaf instant coffee. 

Please put your unwrapped gifts in the blue plastic container in the narthex. 

They will be collected on December 4. 

Cash is also greatly appreciated. Volunteers then shop for gifts for the 

patients. Please make checks payable to “SPRTC Christmas Cheer”

sending 35 youth and 9 adults and we’re joining 

First Lutheran AND Scandian Grove so….We’ll 

have a big group of St Peter people….so fun!

Faith-4-Life 5 th & 6 th Graders 

Parent volunteers are needed to host social 

events for 5 th and 6 th Graders in a safe, Christian 

environment with FUN being the top priority! 

Usually held a couple times a month on 

either Sundays or Wednesdays. Some things 

they’ve done in the past are: bowling, bon-fire 

at one of the parent’s home, hay-rides, caroling, 

games at the church. The kids LOVE it, 

but without parent volunteers, nothing can happen. 

We are also looking for a parent volunteer 

who would be willing to lead this ministry. Signup 

on the parent message board or call Andy 

Elofson at 995-7875 to discuss how easy it is to 

get involved &/or help you organize your event.

sponsor a classroom or rotation workshop. The 

money raised helps pay for the supplies that 

the students and teachers use to learn about 

God’s love in creative ways or it can help transform 

a workshop into a place where learning 

comes alive! When you make a donation, you 

and/or your family will get your name posted by 

a classroom. Donation slips and more details 

can be found in the narthex. Leave your donation 

in the church office. 

HARK FROM THE A.R.K. 

Sun., Nov. 27 th - Thanksgiving Weekend - No A.R.K. or Grapple. 

Sat., Dec. 17 th - Rehearsal for Christmas Program 

Practice will be from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. This is for all Sunday 

school students. Meet in the sanctuary. Parents of children who 

have singing only roles are asked to stay as those children will be 

released early. 

December 18 th , Sunday School Christmas Program 

� Wee’s, Pre’s, & K’s sing at the 10:45 am Service - they are 

welcome to come back & sing at the evening program as well. 

� Prelude Music to the Christmas Program - if your child has 

a musical talent that they’d like to share with us, please contact 

Dawn Eberhart at education@trinitystpeter.org or sign up 

on the parent message board in the education wing. 

� 2011 Christmas Program - 4:30 pm - children need to be in 

their class rooms by 4:15 pm. Children in K-4 th grade will be 

assigned a station as a classroom. Teachers will take their 

students back to their class room after the program where parents 

can pick them up. 

� Potluck Supper - following the Christmas Program in the 

Gustafson room. Remember to bring a dish to share. 

A calendar for the remaining of the year can be found in the education 

wing. 

Help Is Still Needed 

Sunday school is looking for Station Leaders & a Co-Teacher! If 

you are available a couple Sundays a month from 9:15 am - 10:30 

am during the school year and are willing to share your love for 

Jesus with 5 th graders, please contact Dawn Eberhart at 327-3783 

or education@trinitystpeter.org. There is also a need for several 

Leaders for the Science/Cooking Station, Movie/Music Station, and 

the Creative Drama Station. These are for 4 or 5 week commitments. 

Curriculum & training will be provided for all positions. 

A Change In Leadership For Trinity’s Prayer Chain 

Back in the late 8o’s, Trinity Lutheran had invited the world renown, sought-after Christian author and speaker, Evelyn C. 

Christenson to come and speak and hold a workshop on her classic book, “What Happens When Women Pray?” Surrounding 

churches and the whole community were invited to come and participate. After the workshop there was a general 

agreement among many at Trinity, that a “Prayer Chain” was needed. 

Thanks to three key Trinity members, Barb Nelson, Naomi Kind and Peg Stolee, for organizing the Trinity Prayer Chain 

which consisted then of several telephone chains. The first person for each chain received the call with the requests, 

jotted them down, and in turn, contacted the next person on the chain, and so on until everyone had been reached. As 

of today, this still is the procedure. 

In 2005 the Prayer Chain needed to expand to make it possible for more people to participate. That’s when the Prayer 

Chain went high tech, this consisted of adding the Email Prayer Chain group. The prayer requests are typed up and emailed 

directly to each participant, at home or at work. The only response needed is to take a few minutes’ time to pray 

for each request. 

With the leadership change over, the prayer chain group is welcoming new participants to either be added to the prayer 

chain telephone list or the email list. Sign-up on the clipboard in the narthex if you want to be added to either of these

for funerals and other church events throughout the year. 

The membership has been divided into 13 groups with designated 

coordinators for each month. This allows one group to 

have a month off each year. Groups move up one month each 

year as well, so that you are not serving in the same month 

each year. This list is also used to secure ushers. When your

1. The Kitchen is celebrating 3 years of serving a free meal to those in need. We started Nov. 3 rd , 2008! 

2. In the five weeks since Labor Day we have served 587 people! 

3. We average 25 gallons of milk per month! 

4. We provide FREE rides via the St Peter Transit to The Kitchen! 

5. Approximately 50% of our diners are children!
