PARENT 2 PARENT
Guelph-Wellington
~Putting PARENTS of children, youth and adult children with special needs
in touch with each other~
Parent 2 Parent is a new parent engagement initiative designed to create an active parent network to connect parents who are
raising a child or an adult with special needs. The journey with special needs can be isolating and difficult. Parents have
considerable knowledge to share and can also learn from each other. We want to try and ensure that all families living with special
needs, regardless of diagnosis, age or circumstances has a supportive network when they need it. Many families share common
challenges of diet, sleep disorders, social opportunities, IEP's and the school system, to name a few.
The KidsAbility Centre of Excellence facilitated a similar initiative in Waterloo Region to help parents connect with parents. This
resulted in the parents building the Waterloo Region Family Network. Parents in Wellington County have also expressed an interest
in ‘finding each other’ and these meetings are being facilitated by KidsAbility and interested partner agencies to help support this
formative process.
MEETING SCHEDULE—4th Thursday of the month from Sept to Nov 2011—PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS
