Head Start Committees<br />

The Head Start Center Committee<br />

The Head Start Center Committee is made up of all the <strong>parent</strong>s, who currently have<br />

children enrolled in the Head Start Program. The following are the functions and responsibilities<br />

of the Head Start Center Committee:<br />

� Assist the teachers in the development and operation of every component including<br />

the curriculum in the Head Start program.<br />

� Work closely with classroom teachers and all other component staff to help carry<br />

out the daily activities of the program.<br />

� Assist the staff in planning informal as well as formal programs for <strong>parent</strong>s and<br />

staff. (classroom parties and activities, monthly <strong>parent</strong> meetings and field trips).<br />

� Elect representatives to the Policy Council and provide support for the persons they<br />

elected to represent them.<br />

� Select a representative from each center to serve on each Head Start Committee.<br />

The Health Advisory Committee<br />

The Health Advisory Committee is established by the Health Manager to address issues<br />

related to health and nutrition. This committee meets at least once per semester and<br />

at other times as needed. Committee members participate in the annual selfassessment.<br />

Male Involvement Club<br />

The National Head Start Association recognizes the importance of fathers or male role<br />

models in young children’s lives. A Fatherhood Initiative was developed to meet this<br />

need.<br />

The Education Advisory Committee<br />

The Education Advisory Committee is established by the Education Coordinator to address<br />

issues related to the curriculum, assessment, and daily classroom activities. This<br />

committee helps develop the Yearly Child Outcomes Plan. This committee meets at<br />

least once per semester and at other times as needed. Committee members participate<br />

in the annual self-assessment.<br />

Parent Involvement/ERSA Committee<br />

The Parent Involvement/ERSA Committee is established by the Parent Involvement<br />

Specialist to address issues related to family partnership agreements, volunteering in<br />

the classroom, <strong>parent</strong> training, and Head Start Recruitment and Student Selection.<br />

This committee meets at least once per semester and at other times as needed. Committee<br />

members participate in the annual self-assessment.<br />

Facilities/Licensing/Fiscal/Transportation<br />

/Self-Assessment/Program Governance Committee<br />

This committee is established by the director. It meets on an as needed basis. This<br />

committee is responsible for conducting the annual Head Start self-assessment.<br />
