Responsibilities: Solve complex,non-routine chemistry
problems related to the synthesis of oligonucleotides.
Apply knowledge from scientific literature to
improve oligonucleotide syntheses. Write process development
reports and interface with clients. Maintain
and manage complete, accurate records. Participate
in GMP training, and apply GMP concepts as applicable.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry with 3+ years
experience in synthesis/process development. Experience
in nucleic acid or peptide chemistry preferred.
Very strong written and oral communication skills are

Full Professor (W3) for Biofunctional
Macromolecular Chemistry
This chair is established by the German Cluster
of Excellence bioss (Centre for Biological Signalling
Studies; www.bioss.uni-freiburg.de) at the
Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. We seek
a visionary scientist with strong research credentials
in biofunctional 3-D polymer architectures
including signalling microenvironments
and in interactive macromolecular materials.
Close collaboration with the bioss projects in biology,
medicine, and microsystems engineering
are expected. Experience in teaching polymer
sciences and in acquisition of research grants
are required. It is planned that the candidate
will take over the position of the director of the
Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (www.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
The Mary Fieser Postdoctoral Fellowships Program
seeks to enhance diversity and excellence in the Department
of Chemistry & Chemical Biology (CCB) of
Harvard University by providing postdoctoral fellowship
support to women and groups that are historically
underrepresented in science and to others whose
background, experiences, and research interests will
contribute to academic diversity in CCB. Promising
scholars male and female who have been historically
underrepresented in chemistry (including but not limited
to African American, American Indian, and Hispanic/Latino)
are encouraged to apply. Up to 12 fellowships
may be awarded in 2008. Fellowships will be
for an initial period of one year, with potential for renewal
of up to one year (a two-year maximum level of
support). Stipends will be targeted to the NRSA year
‘0’ amount and will include employee benefits as well
as the opportunity to enroll in an employee health plan.

SYNTHETIC ORGANIC CHEMIST

has an opening for a postdoctoral research fellow in
the Department of Experimental Diagnostic Imaging.

The drug discovery center at Emory University seeks a
postdoctoral fellow or someone with up to three years
of research experience beyond the Ph.D. in synthetic
chemistry or, preferably, medicinal chemistry. Major
responsibilities of the position include design and synthesis
of individual compounds and combinatorial libraries
of biological interest. The successful candidate
is able to interact effectively with other scientists including
synthetic chemists, computational scientists
and biologists in the context of pursuing a wide variety
