Timeline 2011-2012<br />

� March/April: begin receiving acceptance letters UK,<br />

USA, Canada<br />

� Review all information for your accepted<br />

universities: deposits, housing applications,<br />

scholarship deadlines, visa information, etc.<br />

� June: make a decision about where you will go –<br />

many colleges in North America require a deposit to<br />

finalize your admission

� Students will be assisted with a max. of 8<br />

applications<br />

� Ex: UK (1), USA (3), CA (2), NL (1), Home country (1)<br />

� UK: UCAS limits 5 choices (4 for medicine)<br />

� USA & Canada: internal limit of 6 applications<br />

combined<br />

� Netherlands: limits 3 choices<br />

� Other countries: student must research

� Complete study in 3 or 4 years<br />

� VERY limited scholarships or financial aid<br />

� Broad study at a liberal arts college and declare a major later<br />

� Technical institutes for math, engineering<br />

� No undergrad programs in Law or Medicine<br />

� Scholarships funding available for study<br />

� High cost of tuition<br />

� Finances & Scholarships<br />

� Tuition ranges from $10,000 - $50,000 per year! (7,300 Euro +)<br />

� Cost of living varies dramatically from small town to big city<br />

� Need based scholarships vs. Merit based scholarships<br />

� <strong>UWC</strong> Shelby Davis Scholarships – not a “full ride”<br />

� Tuition costs range from C$10,000 – C$24,000 (7,300 Euro)<br />

� IB and <strong>UWC</strong> Grads can qualify for scholarships some Canadian<br />

unis: Trent, York, U Toronto, Simon Fraser, U British<br />

Columbia<br />

� Some scholarships require nomination from <strong>UWC</strong>M in<br />

� No central website for application! Start application on university<br />

� Universities may require the SAT I and II results, TOEFL (maybe)<br />

� Schools offering <strong>UWC</strong>/IB scholarship programs will require<br />

supplemental application packages, essays, recommendation letters,<br />

etc.<br />

and EU students. E 6,000 – 10,000 for<br />

international students. Monthly overall budget<br />

� Scholarship + free public transport card from<br />

government for students NL and EU.<br />

� Housing and accommodation: difficult, see websites<br />

� Students should also research possible programs at<br />

universities in their home countries<br />

� Especially fields like law & medicine, you are best off<br />

studying in the country where you want to/ have the<br />

citizenship needed to work!
