Artistic Traditions

artefacts, and nowhere is this more evident than in the nation’s

Germany has long been home to a flourishing arts and design
scene, evident in its world-class galleries and museums,
designers, architects and intellectuals. While today it hosts a
busy calendar of exhibitions and art fairs, Germany also saw a
Golden Age in the last century, with the Renaissance of arts and
sciences that took place in the old Weimar Republic (1918–1933).
It was during this time that Germany was alive with achievers in
almost every cultural field, from art and literature to philosophy,
science and technology.
One of the great influences of that period was the Dada artistic
movement, originating in Zurich around the time of the First
