Meet puts ‘track’ back into Track Club
Since I have been a track club member, I have
always found it interesting that a track club
would not have a track meet. After attending several
meetings early on, I found that the last track
meets were in the early 1990s.
A track club not having a track meet really inspired
me to resurrect one similar to the days of
old. Those meets were important because of our
club’s name. These meets also were designed to
promote youth running.
So for the last two years, I have been working
with many other club members to put the “track”
back into the track club. I first thought this was
going to be an easy task because many members
use the UW-Eau Claire track for interval workouts
with no problem.
This is a great, high-quality track that had
everything needed to produce a high-quality
meet. However, obtaining use of the track for an
event was harder than I could have imagined.
After several setbacks on obtaining the UW
track to use, we decided to push forward with
a different site. With help from Roger Skifstad
and Adam Smit, the pieces finally aligned in our
favor. We were granted access to the Chippewa
Falls High School track for an evening event on
Aug. 3.

I had several discussions to fast track the event.
We decided to keep the event low-cost -- $2 for a
single event and $5 for multiple events, and no
prizes or shirts will be given out. We also wanted
to limit the number of events offered in our first
attempt at running the event.
This meet has a distance that anyone of any
age can compete in, and we encourage everyone
to participate. The distances will consist of a predicted
mile, 400-, 800- and 3200-meter run and a
medley relay (1200, 400, 800, 1600).
So mark your calendar for Aug. 3 and bring
the family out for an evening of camaraderie and
friendly competition. The event starts at 6 p.m.,
and registration starts at 5 p.m. I hope to see you
at the meet.
