AAF performed not only by the original band but later manifestations of the original band led by different leaders,<br />

but featuring mainly original members of the AAF band and in two instances Al Klink and Doc Goldberg who were<br />

members of the original civilian Glenn Miller Orchestra. It will be noted that several track names are duplicated<br />

and it should be said that these represent different recordings by differently led versions of the band for instance ‘Sweet Lorraine’ is performed<br />

by the band led by Jerry Gray and again by Norman Leyden with vocals by Artie Malvin in the first instance and secondly by Johnny Desmond.<br />

Glenn Miller’s sax man and vocalist, Tex Beneke had been leading the post-war Miller Band for three years, though<br />

Tex had dropped the ‘Glenn Miller Orchestra’ billing a year previously ten million records had been sold, however<br />

the golden days of the big bands was over and the Beneke - Miller Orchestra was the largest dance band in America<br />

at the time. With its string section and French horn which Tex had inherited from the Miller Army Air Forces Band.<br />

To save money, Tex paid off Phil Cogliano and the other string players. When Tex dropped the strings he remarked<br />

singer Eileen Wilson who starred with Frank Sinatra on the popular radio and television series ‘Hit Parade’, she was<br />

also known as the vocalist with orchestras of Les Brown and Skitch Henderson. On show eighteen the guest is Basil<br />

Rathbone an extremely popular actor of the 1930/40 well known for his prolific film television and radio performances.<br />
