An exploration of New Zealand’s North and South Islands

If you have promised yourself that one day you will tour New Zealand, but have not
been enticed by the thought of touring by coach or self-drive car, then our coastal
cruise could be the answer. After all, the islands of New Zealand are perfect for
exploration by sea as most of the main scenic attractions are close to the coast.
We have many years of operating cruises in New Zealand and are delighted to
now have our own vessel, the Caledonian Sky in the region as we know from
experience she is the perfect style of vessel for such a cruise. This will be the
Caledonian’s Sky maiden cruise around New Zealand and will introduce
you to an unspoiled and unpolluted landscape of remarkable natural beauty.
Auckland
There are steep-sided glacial
fjords, geysers and boiling
mud, coastal rain forests,
snow-capped mountains, rolling green
pasture lands and enchanting sandy
bays and coves. In the cities, towns
and villages you will encounter that
unique combination of New World
and British heritage. See some of
the most splendid gardens in the
Southern Hemisphere, visit some
world famous vineyards, encounter
fascinating marine and bird life and
meet the people, renowned for their
warmth and openness. All this will be
achieved with great ease.
Although this cruise is not classified
as expeditionary, on some days it
will be necessary to use the Zodiac
landing craft to access remote ports
and land ashore.
The Itinerary
Day 1 - London to Hong Kong. Fly
by scheduled flight.
Day 2 - Hong Kong. Arrive this
afternoon and transfer to the Harbour
Grand Hong Kong Hotel for a two night
stay. Remainder of day at leisure. This
evening meet for a Welcome Dinner.
Day 3 - Hong Kong. Morning Hong
Kong tour including Victoria Peak and
Stanley Market. Afternoon free.
Day 4 - Hong Kong to Auckland.
Enjoy a morning at leisure in Hong
Kong before transferring to the airport
for the scheduled flight to Auckland.

Day 5 - Auckland. Arrive this morning
and transfer to the Crowne Plaza
Hotel (or similar) for an overnight
stay. The remainder of the day is free
for individual exploration in this city
famous for its wonderful diversity of
landscape, two sparkling harbours
and the attractions associated with a
sophisticated, cosmopolitan city.
Day 6 - Auckland. A morning tour
will include the city’s highlights and
the Auckland Museum, which houses
the world’s largest collection of
Polynesian artefacts. After lunch in a
local restaurant we will transfer to the
MS Caledonian Sky which is moored
in the city.
Day 7 - Tauranga for Rotorua. Drive
to the famous thermal springs at
Rotorua to see the geysers and pools
of bubbling mud. We also enjoy a
traditional Maori welcome and lunch.
Day 8 - White Island. Arrive this
morning at White Island. Weather
permitting, there will be an excursion
to explore the active volcano on White
Island, identifiable by the plume of
steam continually spouting from its
crater. Following a landing by Zodiac
we will spend approximately three
hours on a guided walk to the crater.
Afternoon cruising.
Day 9 - Napier. Arrive this morning
in Napier and join a tour of the town
which will include its charming art
deco buildings. Nowhere else can you
see such a variety of buildings in the
styles of the 1930s - Stripped Classical,
Spanish Mission, and above all Art
