Your January envelope packet contains an additional envelope
which may be used for this purpose. Those who have the
financial means and those who have raised their children, but
perhaps could not give adequately when their children were
attending Catholic schools, are encouraged to contribute. This
school year, 2012-2013, over $135,000 will be used to help
families pay for partial or full scholarships.
NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS
Feast of the Baptism of the Lord marks Jesus' initiation into
public ministry. At his baptism Jesus is named the Beloved Son
of God. With this celebration we recommit ourselves to follow in
the footsteps of Jesus. Initiated through our baptism we too are
commissioned to proclaim Good News with our lives.
We all have a vocation. We are invited to understand how the
choices that we have already made in life are an extension and
call from our own baptism. What is/was the giftedness from God
that calls/called us to become the mature faith-filled person that
God want us to be? What is stirring in our hearts, moving us to
follow Christ with the gift of our life?
If we want peace and God's love to reign here and now, then we
are invited to do what Jesus did: to love, to find opportunities to
love, to be compassionate.
During this Year of Faith, what is God doing in you? What
difference is the message of the parables, teachings, words of
Jesus doing in your life right now? What are the experiences in
your life that you and God can look at together and see a deeper
meaning that can in turn have an impact for your future?
God is asking us all to be open; to be open to the gifts that have
been given to us in baptism; to be open to the deeper message
of our life experiences; to be open to the quiet and gentle
stirrings in our hearts that move us closer to understanding what
God is calling us to in our life.
Students, young adults, have you considered what God is calling
you to through your baptism? Have you considered that you may
be called to be a Priest, a Sister, a Brother, a husband, a wife?
Parents, grandparents, have you told your child, grandchild,
niece, nephew, how you could see them being a priest, a Sister,
a Brother? Have you encouraged others, through living and
sharing your faith, to follow Jesus' example
and to respond to His invitation? During this
National Vocation Awareness Week, let
us all pray and e n c o u r a g e f o r
vocations!
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Loving God, during this Year of Faith
You call us through our baptism in the Spirit
To continue the mission of your beloved Son, Jesus.
Open us to listen attentively for your invitation.
Empower us to respond to your call.

Devotional Booklets available. IMPORTANT! If anyone

collection basket, it would not seem to matter much. But
when over 200 individuals forget their dollar, it does make a

REGISTRATION for kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school
year will be held on Tuesday, January 22, from 1:15-2:30 p.m.
in the Hession Center in Rooms C & D.
Please bring with you:
(1) A copy of child’s birth certificate--Kindergarten child
must be five on or before August 1.
(2) Copy of child’s Baptismal certificate
(3) Child’s Social Security number
(4) Up-to-date list of the child’s immunizations
(5) $40.00 non-refundable registration fee for all students
new to St. Charles
Registrations are accepted after January 22, but if
at all possible, we urge you to come on this date.
We have arranged for extra help and the
registration process goes very quickly.
Registration for kindergarten closes on March
1, 2013, and students will be accepted on the
basis of our Admission Policy. Students registering after March
1, will be placed on a waiting list.
Registration for transfer students and students new to St.
Charles in grades 1-8 for the 2013-2014 school year will be
accepted at the school office. Please phone 484-3392 to arrange
for an appointment, to receive additional information, and/or to
register.
Students are accepted in this order:
Classification A:
Families who are registered and actively involved at St. Charles
or Our Lady of Good Hope Parishes who presently have their
baptized Catholic children attending St. Charles School.
Classification B:
Families who are registered and actively involved at St. Charles
or Our Lady of Good Hope Parishes, in order of parish
registration date, who do not currently have children enrolled at
St. Charles School.
** In the event that there is a waiting list for any grade, the
following criteria will determine your placement on the list:
1. Regular attendance at Mass.
2. Active participation in the parish.
3. Dedication to Catholic education.
4. Consistent financial support of the parish.
Classification C:
If room permits, students whose parents are actively involved in
other parishes may be admitted after August 1.
Classification D: - If room permits, non-Catholic students may
be admitted after August 1, with character references from a
minister or a school administrator. If a student in this category is
accepted at St. Charles, he/she may continue through
graduation. Siblings, however, will be placed in Classification C.
WAITING LISTS:
A. Criteria is the same as the Admissions Guidelines.
B. When a family is offered an opening for a student and
refuses, that student moves to the bottom of the list
regardless of whether or not they have siblings.

BISHOP DWENGER HIGH SCHOOL
SAINTS SPOTLIGHT
Bishop Dwenger is offering an ACT/SAT prep
course on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Classes will begin on Tuesday,
January 22, and end on Thursday, March 7. The
14 sessions will include test familiarity, pacing, strategies, as well
as a review of English, Math and Science concepts. The class fee
is $195.00 and includes both an ACT text and SAT text for the
course. The class is open to any high school student in the Fort
Wayne/Allen County area. For more information and registration

NORDIC CHOIR TO PERFORM
Luther College Nordic Choir, one of the top college choirs in the
nation, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January
17, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., F.W.
Conducted by Dr. Allen Hightower, the choir will perform sacred
choral works. Appearing with the Nordic Choir will be the A
Capella Choir of Concordia Lutheran High School. A freewill

Divorced/Separated Catholic Support Group
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Diocesan Office of
Family Life welcome men and women who have suffered from
divorce. Please join the presentation on Thursday, January 17,
for the session “Handling Money Wisely”. This session offers
practical advice on reorienting the way divorced people view
money (and the loss of it), how to live on a budget and how to

The Department of Philosophy and Theology is hosting a free
public lecture as part of the 2012-2013 Philosophy/Theology
Lecture Series. Five of our faculty lectures this year explore the

SCRIP NEWS
Weather Delays: It’s that time of year when weather can cause
school to take a 2-hour delay. What does that mean for SCRIP?
• On Mondays, school orders are collected when the students
come to school at the delayed time, processed and sent
home at the end of the school day. However, if we were not
balanced because of the delay, the orders would be held
until Tuesday. An announcement would be made at
dismissal. This very seldom happens thanks to our
wonderful Monday volunteers.
• On Fridays, SCRIP sales move to the delayed time. Instead
of taking place from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m., sales take place
from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. You can still send in an order
with your student; it will be filled and sent home at the end of
the school day.
Taking Care of Business: We can’t stress enough how
important it is for you to completely fill out the information at the
top of the SCRIP order form.
• Name refers to your name, not your student.
• Envelope No. is the number on your contribution envelopes.
• Phone should be a number where we can reach you during
the time we are filling orders, just in case we need to contact
you.
• Delivery is one of three choices. (1) If you want it to go
home with a student, please indicate your child’s name and
room number. If you are not comfortable sending it home
with a child, you can pick it up at the Parish Office; (2) or
during our Friday or weekend sale times, better known as
“Cash Sales”; (3) The final option is to have it mailed;
however, once it leaves the SCRIP office, we are no longer
responsible for it. We do not refill orders lost in the mail.
Merchant Updates: Bandidos is no longer available in $10
certificates; $5 and $20 are still available. Starbucks available in
$10 and $25 gift cards ($5 were a special holiday offer). Dairy
Queen is no longer available. Remember Land’s End can be
used for any purchase at Sears in any department with a much
higher profit.

case of school delays. We appreciate and rely on your help.
