Further Education<br />
Choice of college will be agreed provided it does not lead to additional use of<br />
resources. Where the course required is available at the nearest appropriate school<br />
and a preference to attend elsewhere is agreed, it will be on the understanding<br />
that no transport is provided. At present financial support for students undertaking<br />
courses of Further Education is subject to review. For further information contact<br />

Student Grants and Loans<br />
Higher Education Students<br />
Local Authorities in partnership with the Welsh Government and the Student<br />
Loans Company are responsible for the administration of Higher Education<br />
Student Finance for students who normally live in Wales, and will be attending<br />
University or other HE institutions in the UK. The partnership is known as Student<br />
Finance Wales. Students can apply online or download an application form by<br />
visiting www.studentfinancewales.co.uk<br />
The Student Support Team at <strong>Torfaen</strong> is responsible for assessing the eligibility<br />
and entitlement of students normally resident in <strong>Torfaen</strong> attending Full and<br />
Part Time Higher Education Courses at Colleges and Universities throughout<br />

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)<br />
If you are aged 16 to 18 years old, you may be eligible for an Education<br />
Maintenance Allowance (EMA). You can pick up an application pack from your<br />
school or college, download one from www.studentfinancewales.co.uk or request<br />
one from the EMA Customer Services Team on 0845 602 8845.<br />
Assembly Learning Grant – Further Education (ALG FE)<br />
Students aged 19 and over at the start of the academic year may be eligible for<br />
an Assembly Learning Grant (ALG) if undertaking a course of Further Education.<br />
