course for Denyal Hygienist and<br />
Dental Mechanics has been started<br />
with the intake capacity <strong>of</strong> 20<br />
students in each course.<br />
The main object <strong>of</strong> the<br />
opening <strong>of</strong> the Dental College and<br />
Hospital was to meet the ever<br />
increasing demand <strong>of</strong> Dental Doctors<br />
and Para Medical staff with the view<br />
to provide better dental health<br />
services to the people <strong>of</strong> the State.<br />
During the period from<br />
1.1.<strong>2011</strong> to 30.11.<strong>2011</strong> 196 indoor and<br />
53,690 outdoor patients have been<br />
treated. 52 Dental Mobile Camps has<br />
organized through which 5,200<br />
patients have been treated. As per<br />
the announcement <strong>of</strong> Hon’ble Chief<br />
Minister this institution is providing<br />
free dental treatment to the IRDP<br />
and BPL families and has also started<br />
SMILE YOJNA as per the<br />
announcement <strong>of</strong> Hon’ble Health<br />
Minister.<br />
Financial Achievements:<br />
During the financial year<br />
<strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong> an amount <strong>of</strong> ` 576.13 lakh<br />
under (Non-Plan) and ` 05.00 lakh<br />
under Plan have been provided to<br />
HPGDC Shimla for the smooth<br />
functioning.<br />

AYURVEDA<br />
17.5 Indian System <strong>of</strong><br />
Medicines and Homoeopathy plays a<br />
vital role in the Health Care System<br />
<strong>of</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> H.P. The separate<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Ayurveda was<br />
established in 1984 and Health Care<br />
services are being provided to the<br />
general public through 2 regional<br />
Ayurvedic hospitals, 2 circle<br />
Ayurvedic hospitals, 3 tribal hospitals,<br />
9 District Ayurvedic hospitals, one<br />
Nature care hospital, 1,109 Ayurvedic<br />
health centers, <strong>12</strong> ten/twenty bedded<br />
Ayurvedic hospitals, 3 Unani health<br />
centers, 14 homoeopathic health<br />
centers and 4 Amchi clinics (out <strong>of</strong><br />
which one is functional).The<br />
department has inbuilt system <strong>of</strong><br />
production <strong>of</strong> medicines through 3<br />
Ayurvedic Pharmacies, at<br />
Jogindernagar (District Mandi), Majra<br />
(District Sirmaur) and Paprola<br />
(District Kangra). These pharmacies<br />
catering to the need <strong>of</strong> the Ayurvedic<br />
health institutions <strong>of</strong> the department<br />
and also give boost to the employment<br />
to local people. Rajeev Gandhi<br />
<strong>Government</strong> P.G. Ayurvedic College<br />
Paprola with an intake capacity <strong>of</strong> 50<br />
students for B.A.M.S. degree is<br />
functioning at Paprola in Kangra<br />
district. Besides this the PG Classes in<br />
Kayachikitsa, Shalakya Tantra, Shalya<br />
Tantra, Prasuti Tantra, Samhita and<br />
Sidhant, Dravya Guna, Rog Nidan,<br />
Swasth Vritta, Panchkarm and Balrog<br />
are also there. The department has<br />
started the B-Pharmacy course (Ay.)
