Material Metering System
The Problem:
A large number of liquid raw materials were
being handled. Many of these products,
arriving primarily in drums, needed to be heated
prior to charge to the mixing vessels.
Manpower was being lost locating these raw
materials, heating the drums, and cleaning
drum pumps and hoses as well as cleaning the
many process vessels used in production.
The Solution:
Figure 1
A total of ten (10)
items were identified
as prominent
materials. It was
determined that these
materials could
benefit from storage
in fixed 250 gallon
tanks. Four ambient
storage tanks and 6
jacketed tanks were
provided to store
these materials. (See
Fig. 1) Some of
these products were
Other raws were sourced in straight side drums
for emptying to heated storage tanks via press,
without the need for heating. (See Fig. 2)
A Hot Room was constructed to house other
materials requiring above ambient storage.
Nine (9) products were used on a regular basis.
These raws were each given dedicated pumps
and lines feeding directly from the hot room.
