Pote’s Notes Illustrious Sir Don Jensen It was indeed a proud, but humbling experience, to be elected Potentate of El Riad Temple for the year 2012! When Helen placed the Fez that said “Potentate” on my head at the public installation, it reminded me of all the men who have served in this capacity since 1888. The Fez means helping children while building El Riad into the fraternal and philanthropic organization that it is today. I can only assure all of the Nobles that I will endeavor to do my very best to insure that this tradition of excellence continues. I would like to give a special “thank you” to Dr. Pat and Denise for their leadership in 2011 and over the years becoming a lifelong friend. I believe the leadership team of El Riad is among the best in all of Shrine International. Your Board of Directors is unlike any other temple. We as members of the Board of Directors, have a tremendous responsibility to manage the business and activities of El Riad. This is our year. Our goal this year is more of the same. The bar has been raised and it is our job to raise it a little higher. The theme for this year is: “Unity” An Open Heart and an Open Mind make El Riad who we are! I would also like to express my thanks to the following: to Jane, Dick and Joel from the Shrine Office who spent many hours preparing for the day’s activities; to the Provost Unit for tiling the doors; to the Snack Unit for preparing the oyster stew and chili; to the Chanters for singing during the installation; to Past Potentate Bruce Wallin for being the Installing Officer; to Past Potentate Arlen Knutson for being the Installing Marshal; to the Dixieland Band for providing music during the reception that followed the Installation; to the Potentate’s Aides for bartending; to Chief of Staff Tom Johnson and Assistant Chief of Staff Tim Bachman for organizing the event following installation; and to all of you who attend the Annual Meeting and Installation Ceremony and Reception. I want to close with a special thank-you to Dr. Pat Colbert and his Lady Denise. You two have been a shining example of what the leadership and dedication to the Shrine is all about.
