EL RIAD ROADRUNNERS<br />
This is my first report as President of the Roadrunners.<br />
We really need to thank the drivers not only for their dedication,<br />
but also the way they serve the patients and parents.<br />
This is a customer service and the customers really<br />
appreciate the dedication of the drivers. We really need to<br />
thank Rick Johnson for his service as President of the<br />
Roadrunners for the last two years. What a GREAT JOB,<br />
Rick. Hope to see you up and in great shape again. Rick<br />
has had knee repair surgery after a fall.<br />
We have a new driver who is Jim Kirkeby, and he<br />
made his first trip December 20 to Minneapolis. We need<br />
more drivers, so if you would like to help contact me.<br />
Drivers for October not reported before are Ken<br />
Steele, TWICE, and Les Tiezen. These trips were completed<br />
after reporting time for the Cactus reporting.<br />
November drivers were: George Woodhouse, Jon<br />
Millender, Mel Dykstra, Jerry Kobes, TWICE, Keith<br />
Coacher and wife Rebecca, Arlan Nordhagen, Lyle<br />
Sturdevant, TWICE, Jim Baker, Don Wendt, Glendon<br />
Rice, Roger Larson, Kevin Tomshack, Harlan<br />
Danielson, Art Wienke and wife Karen, Leon Brink,<br />
Adam Brink, Bill Brennan and wife Becky. Special<br />
thanks to the wives of drivers for helping out.<br />
December drivers were: Les Tiezen, Roger Larson,<br />
Glendon Rice, John Pudwill Jr.,Everett Brandenburg,<br />
Howard Greer, Jim Kirkeby and drivers from Yankton.<br />
In 2011 we had 77 drivers taking at least one trip and<br />
several made many trips. Thanks to all who have served<br />

Burn Awareness Week<br />
is February 5-11, 2012<br />
Burn prevention is a key endeavor of <strong>Shrine</strong>rs Hospitals<br />
for Children, which is why the health care system began its<br />
Burn Awareness campaigns more than 20 years ago. Burn<br />
Awareness Week is a kick-off to a year-long campaign. This<br />
year, the week-long recognition is February 5-11, 2012.<br />
The Burn Awareness Campaign<br />
Fraternity members, hospital employees and the public<br />
can visit www.burnawarenessweek.org and order educational<br />
materials including, posters, stickers and more. All of<br />
these materials are available at no charge.<br />
Quick Facts About Burn Injuries<br />
Each year in the United States, 1.1 million burn injuries<br />
require medical attention. Approximately 4,500 people die.<br />
And up to 10,000 people die every year in the<br />
U.S. from burn-related infections.<br />
Kids ages 13 and older are in the highest<br />
at-risk group for gasoline and other flammable<br />
substance burns.<br />
Ninety-five percent of scalds occur in residences.<br />
Fire causes the death of more than<br />
600 children ages 14 and under each year, and<br />
injures about 3,000 more.<br />
Nearly 50 percent of children injured in<br />
fires or fire-related incidents are under age 5.<br />
