EL RIAD ROADRUNNERS
This is my first report as President of the Roadrunners.
We really need to thank the drivers not only for their dedication,
but also the way they serve the patients and parents.
This is a customer service and the customers really
appreciate the dedication of the drivers. We really need to
thank Rick Johnson for his service as President of the
Roadrunners for the last two years. What a GREAT JOB,
Rick. Hope to see you up and in great shape again. Rick
has had knee repair surgery after a fall.
We have a new driver who is Jim Kirkeby, and he
made his first trip December 20 to Minneapolis. We need
more drivers, so if you would like to help contact me.
Drivers for October not reported before are Ken
Steele, TWICE, and Les Tiezen. These trips were completed
after reporting time for the Cactus reporting.
November drivers were: George Woodhouse, Jon
Millender, Mel Dykstra, Jerry Kobes, TWICE, Keith
Coacher and wife Rebecca, Arlan Nordhagen, Lyle
Sturdevant, TWICE, Jim Baker, Don Wendt, Glendon
Rice, Roger Larson, Kevin Tomshack, Harlan
Danielson, Art Wienke and wife Karen, Leon Brink,
Adam Brink, Bill Brennan and wife Becky. Special
thanks to the wives of drivers for helping out.
December drivers were: Les Tiezen, Roger Larson,
Glendon Rice, John Pudwill Jr.,Everett Brandenburg,
Howard Greer, Jim Kirkeby and drivers from Yankton.
In 2011 we had 77 drivers taking at least one trip and
several made many trips. Thanks to all who have served

Burn Awareness Week
is February 5-11, 2012
Burn prevention is a key endeavor of Shriners Hospitals
for Children, which is why the health care system began its
Burn Awareness campaigns more than 20 years ago. Burn
Awareness Week is a kick-off to a year-long campaign. This
year, the week-long recognition is February 5-11, 2012.
The Burn Awareness Campaign
Fraternity members, hospital employees and the public
can visit www.burnawarenessweek.org and order educational
materials including, posters, stickers and more. All of
these materials are available at no charge.
Quick Facts About Burn Injuries
Each year in the United States, 1.1 million burn injuries
require medical attention. Approximately 4,500 people die.
And up to 10,000 people die every year in the
U.S. from burn-related infections.
Kids ages 13 and older are in the highest
at-risk group for gasoline and other flammable
substance burns.
Ninety-five percent of scalds occur in residences.
Fire causes the death of more than
600 children ages 14 and under each year, and
injures about 3,000 more.
Nearly 50 percent of children injured in
fires or fire-related incidents are under age 5.
