C Schools/Educational Facilities, Under $1 million T Tom Murphy, Russell Garrison, Chris Hall, Brad Buffington and Robin Georgens A Eagle Award Wharton-Smith provided Design–Build services for this library renovation project to bring the outdated second floor space to a level that meets the needs of the technologically savvy students. The project consisted of more than doubling the fixed PC stations, adding power “within arms reach” for soft seating and workstations, improving finishes, (carpet, paint, etc.) adding architectural elements and working with UCF’s furniture vendor to meet the ultimate goal. The construction phase was completed over the 2010 summer term, in order to have the entire 25,000 square foot area complete for fall 2010 semester. The construction phasing was scheduled to minimize disruption and impact to the library staff and student activities. Victoria Park Medical Office Building and Imaging Center, DeLand Architect – Phil H. Taylor Architect N Palmer Electric Company C Electrical, Under $1 million T Van Tilley, Steve Conenna and Luis Contreras A Eagle Award Victoria Park Medical Office Building and Imaging Center is a single story healthcare facility with a variety of outpatient services, including imaging, women’s diagnostics, rehabilitation and sports medicine, and a laboratory along with offices for four physicians. Palmer installed all the electrical and systems for the entire facility in seven months. High tech medical equipment with special electrical requirements were installed with accuracy and coordination. C HVAC, $1–$5 million T Tim Daugherty, Tony Richey, Bronson Vaughn, Jim Simmons and Matt Ginther A Eagle Award N Palmer Electric Company C Electrical, $1–$5 million T Steve Conenna A Eagle Award The new UCF Arts Complex is designed to enhance the performing arts classes and programs at UCF, and respond to the Central Florida community in attracting cultural events. The first phase of the state–of–the–art facility Performing Arts Complex includes two buildings for the theater and music departments that provide critically needed practice rooms, classrooms, offices, acting/dance studios, teaching studios, reception areas, and conference space on campus. The project includes significant design detail on the exterior and critical acoustical details on the interior, all meticulously executed. Alpha Insulation & Waterproofing Company installed the waterproofing and spry insulation, exterior and interior joint sealants, expansion joints, fluid applied and sheet membrane air/vapor barrier, and fire containment systems. Mechanical Services of Central Florida, Inc. (MSI) installed the HVAC systems, which were designed with large diameter ductwork and air distribution to achieve high– volume, low–velocity supply air delivery. The ductwork was designed using double wall duct, vibration isolation and sound absorbing material within the system. MSI contributed to the success of the project by adhering to strict scheduling guidelines and unique acoustical specifications. Palmer Electric Company provided the electrical installation of over 64 miles of copper wire, 18 miles of conduit, 2,500 wire devices, 1,300 lighting fixtures and a complete lighting control system. Palmer also installed the fire alarm, lightning protection and audio visual systems. There were several unique design requirements to meet the music and theater sound quality specifications. All vibrating equipment was installed on vibration isolators to ensure no vibrations were transferred through the building. The sound rated walls, some of which were five layers of drywall, could not be penetrated with any electrical conduits, so all conduits were isolated where they attached to the building.

C HVAC, $1–$5 million T Stan Brown, Rick Ramkissoon and Dennis Sipe A Award of Merit N Tharp Plumbing Systems C Plumbing, Under $1 million T Dave Horn, Greg Jones, and Chris Seifert A Eagle Award N Exterior Walls, Inc. C Drywall & Finishing, Under $1 million T Rafael Negrette and Abraham Bronstein A Eagle Award UCF needed a facility that accommodated increased student enrollment. The two–story, 65,000 square foot expansion includes a new cardio area with super circuit training, weight room floor, four racquetball courts, men and women’s locker rooms, wet classroom, outdoor adventure center, pedestal paver roof terrace overlooking the Olympic Style Myrtha pool, and a MAC (Multipurpose Activity Court) gym. Comprehensive Energy Services installed the HVAC system which includes two aircooled chillers, pumps, over 2,600 linear feet of chilled water distribution piping, seven air handling units, over 350,000 lbs. of fabricated sheet metal ductwork, insulation and a BAS control system tied into the UCF campus control system. Exterior Walls, Inc. scope of work included the installation of scaffolding, drywall and finishes, installation of acoustical ceilings tile and framing. For the four new racquetball courts, Exterior Walls installed the acoustical sound batt insulation on metal framing 20 feet high and Fiberesin High Performance panels from Fiberesin Industries. The expansion includes changes to reduce the center’s carbon output, so while the students are exercising, kinetic energy generated by the person using certain machinery is converted to a direct current and sent to a ReRev system that converts the power to an alternating current usable by the center. The project has applied for LEED ® Gold certification.
