Unified C.A.R.E. is a collaborative military/civilian program introduced by Project C.A.R.E., the United States Navy<br />
public-private effort to improve the physical appearance and psychological health of wounded Service members,<br />
advance research and provide continuity of care to wounded warriors and their families.<br />
Since 2010, the <strong>Foundation</strong> is participating in the new model military rehabilitation program focused on<br />
comprehensive recovery that has the potential to accelerate treatment while advancing care available to the<br />
wounded soldier. The <strong>Foundation</strong>’s 2012 War Injuries Initiative is analogous to and dovetails with goals that increase<br />
the quality of care, improve access and provide the greatest opportunity to dramatically increase the quality of life<br />
for injured service members. Unified C.A.R.E. was created by Dr. Salt as an extension of Naval Medical Center San<br />
Diego's Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care (C5) recovery program.<br />
Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) is one of the nation’s premier Military Medical Centers. A leader in the<br />
medical field, the hospital is also a major teaching and research center operating under the command of Rear<br />
Admiral C. Forrest Faison III. As Navy medicine's most active teaching hospital it conducts graduate medical<br />
education programs.<br />
The <strong>Gene</strong> <strong>Vance</strong> <strong>Jr</strong>. <strong>Foundation</strong> for Catastrophically Injured War Veterans (GVJF) is a privately funded 501(c)(3), not<br />
for profit, non-partisan all volunteer auxiliary organization serving military medicine and the wounded warrior. A<br />
world class resource of excellence focused on innovative solutions that help to optimize the leading edge of military<br />
medicine and advance medical science. Established in 2005, it is committed to transformational care of<br />
catastrophically injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The <strong>Foundation</strong> currently provides gratis<br />
support services and has symbolized a grateful nation since its inception seven years ago.
