Gregory B. Barker, PhD, received his doctorate <strong>in</strong> School/Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Child<br />
Psychology from the University of Virg<strong>in</strong>ia <strong>in</strong> 1981. For over 25 years<br />
he has specialized <strong>in</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g with children <strong>and</strong> adolescents <strong>in</strong> residential,<br />
hospital, college counsel<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>and</strong> school sett<strong>in</strong>gs. For 17 years Dr.<br />
Barker consulted to the Bard College Counsel<strong>in</strong>g Center <strong>and</strong> is currently<br />
a school psychologist <strong>in</strong> the Rondout Valley public schools. He also has<br />
a private practice <strong>in</strong> Rh<strong>in</strong>ebeck, New York, where he specializes <strong>in</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g<br />
with families <strong>and</strong> children.<br />
Leya Barrett, MSW, LCSW, is the Family Therapist on Program I, “The<br />
Field of Dreams,” at Onarga Academy, where she specializes <strong>in</strong> the treatment<br />
of adolescents with sexual behavior problems. As a licensed cl<strong>in</strong>ical<br />
social worker, she is always <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g her experience with expressive<br />
arts activities <strong>and</strong> fi nd<strong>in</strong>g new ways to br<strong>in</strong>g treatment alive for her clients.<br />
She has presented at national conferences for professionals who<br />
treat children with sexual behavior problems <strong>and</strong> at <strong>in</strong>ternational play<br />
therapy conferences. In addition, she has coauthored (along with three<br />
of her Onarga Academy colleagues) a chapter <strong>in</strong> Us<strong>in</strong>g Superheroes <strong>in</strong><br />
Counsel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>Play</strong> Therapy, edited by Lawrence Rub<strong>in</strong>. The use of pop<br />
culture <strong>in</strong> counsel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> play therapy is a natural fi t for Barrett, who has<br />
a special place <strong>in</strong> her heart for 1980s pop culture.<br />
Jan M. Burte, PhD, MSCP, is a Licensed Psychologist who has taught <strong>and</strong><br />
lectured nationally <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternationally on hypnosis for the past 20 years.<br />
He is a past director of the Milton H. Erickson Institute of Long Isl<strong>and</strong>,<br />
past president of the New York Society of Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Hypnosis, <strong>and</strong> a Certifi<br />
ed <strong>and</strong> Approved Consultant <strong>in</strong> Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Hypnosis (ASCH). Dr. Burte<br />
has been published <strong>in</strong> numerous journals <strong>and</strong> books, <strong>and</strong> has appeared<br />
on radio <strong>and</strong> television discuss<strong>in</strong>g the applicability of hypnosis for a wide<br />
range of patients <strong>and</strong> conditions. In addition, Dr. Burte is a Certifi ed Sex<br />
Therapist (AASECT), a Diplomate <strong>in</strong> Pa<strong>in</strong> Management (AAPM), <strong>and</strong><br />
holds a postdoctoral master’s degree <strong>in</strong> Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Psychopharmacology. He<br />
