Lawrence C. Rub<strong>in</strong>, PhD, LMHC, RPT-S, is a Professor of Counselor<br />
Edu cation at St. Thomas University <strong>in</strong> Miami, Florida, where he teaches<br />
a variety of counsel<strong>in</strong>g courses <strong>and</strong> directs the Mental Health Counsel<strong>in</strong>g<br />
program. A licensed psychologist <strong>and</strong> mental health counselor, as well as<br />
a registered play therapist supervisor <strong>in</strong> private practice, Dr. Rub<strong>in</strong> specializes<br />
<strong>in</strong> cl<strong>in</strong>ical supervision <strong>and</strong> play therapy as well as the assessment<br />
<strong>and</strong> treatment of children, teens, <strong>and</strong> families. His research <strong>in</strong>terests lie at<br />
the <strong>in</strong>tersection of psychology <strong>and</strong> popular culture, <strong>and</strong> as such, he has<br />
published a previous volume with Spr<strong>in</strong>ger entitled Us<strong>in</strong>g Superheroes<br />
<strong>in</strong> Counsel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>Play</strong> Therapy. Dr. Rub<strong>in</strong> is also the editor of Food<br />
for Thought: Essays on Eat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>Culture</strong>, <strong>and</strong> Psychotropic Drugs<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>Popular</strong> <strong>Culture</strong>: Essays on Medic<strong>in</strong>e, Mental Health <strong>and</strong> the Media,<br />
the latter of which won the 2006 Ray <strong>and</strong> Pat Browne Award for best<br />
edited volume from the <strong>Popular</strong> <strong>Culture</strong> Association. He is an unabashed<br />
pop-culture junkie.
