Kelly E. MacDonald, LPC, spent 10 years working in advertising and
public relations, where primarily she marketed public health campaigns
and other human service programs, before earning a master’s degree in
Counseling from the Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling,
Old Dominion University, in Norfolk, VA. She is a Licensed Professional
Counselor and a National Certifi ed Counselor. Her counseling
caseload has included children, adolescents, young adults, and families.
She has practiced in residential settings, academic environments, and outpatient
settings.
William McNulty, LCSW-C, RPT-S, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. He works in Rockville, Maryland,
at the Reginald S. Lourie Center for Infants and Young Children
as a therapist in the outpatient clinic and the Therapeutic Nursery Program.
He has also been a board member of the Maryland/District of
Columbia Play Therapy Association since 2003. He received his master’s
degree in Psychology from Salisbury State University and his master’s
in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He wishes
to thank his wife for her interest, support, and guidance in writing his
chapter.
Beth Pickard, BS, earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education
and Master of Arts in Education from Ball State University. She has
taught general music in the Anderson Community Schools for 28½
years, retiring in 2000. Earning a master of science in Music Technology
in 1998 from Indiana University, she taught various music classes in the
IU School of Music and the IU School of Education at IUPUI 1997–2007.
She directed the Young Scholars Program for the IU School of Education
at IUPUI from 2001 to 2007 and served as the Music Technology Chair
for the Indiana Music Educators from 1997 to 2007. Music has always
been a very important part of her life and she plays the piano, the guitar,
the cello, the mountain dulcimer, and various other folk instruments.
Robert Poole, BS, is the unit coordinator of Program 1, “Field of Dreams,”
at the Onarga Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from
Eureka College, alma mater of President Ronald Reagan. In 2007, Robert
coauthored “A Super Milieu: Using Superheroes in the Residential Treatment
of Adolescents With Sexual Behavior Problems,” a chapter in the
volume Using Superheroes in Counseling and Play Therapy (edited by
Lawrence C. Rubin) . Little did he know that the weekly trips to the movies
during his high school years would cultivate the opportunity to use
movies and pop culture to assist clients in his future career. Now as he
watches movies, his mind continually fi nds messages and themes that can
assist in client treatment.
