Performing outside the Red Cow.<br />

Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cllr Simon Lloyd attended along with a host of special guests.<br />

The event was subject to a series of “live” broadcasts on S4C’s evening<br />

news programme Wedi Saith, featuring interviews with Conductor Janice<br />

Ball and Conductor Emeritus John Cynan Jones.<br />

As the programme began the <strong>Choir</strong> performed “Gwahoddiad” prior to the<br />

actual unveiling and a performance of “Myfanwy” – the song performed on<br />

the first night in 1883 when the <strong>Choir</strong> won £1 for its efforts.<br />

Some of the many guests of honour included Roy Noble and Dewi<br />

Griffiths from the BBC, along with entertainer Wyn Calvin. <strong>Choir</strong> soloists<br />

Kate Woolveridge and Iona Jones attended, along with former soprano<br />

soloist Elvira Henry who was reunited with the choristers after almost fifty<br />

years.<br />

Former accompanist Jennifer Jones, Conductor of the Morriston Orpheus<br />

<strong>Choir</strong> Joy Amman Davies, President Brian Bates, Honorary Members Nigel<br />

& Judy Chivers and Jean Lawrence all attended the event.<br />

Chairman Gareth Evans presented landlord and landlady Clive and Zaina<br />

Aktar with a large framed collection of <strong>Choir</strong> pictures which will go on<br />

show in the public house when its impressive refurbishment work is concluded<br />

in 2011.
