A VISIONARY
OF CHANGE.
In 1952, while employed at TIAA, William C. Greenough changed
the face of retirement with the innovation of the first variable
annuity – resulting in the College Retirement Equities Fund. Or as
we now call it, CREF. He later went on to lead TIAA-CREF as Chairman
for over 15 years. Today we celebrate his contributions and honor
him as the recipient of the Insurance Hall of Fame Award.
Dr. Greenough’s innovation has infl uenced pension fund investment
and management around the globe. And almost sixty years later,
it continues to revolutionize the way we do things at TIAA-CREF.
Thanks to his vision, we are better suited to help our participants
