Established in 1839
Bridgwater moved
to their current site
‘The Parks’ in 1925
Mike Moran has
been the
Chairman of Somerset side
Bridgwater for the last
three years and on the
committee for the last
twenty one. He spoke to
Cricket Club Magazine this
month about a fine
performance which has
meant they’ve finished a
superb 2nd in the West of
England Premier League.
The West of England
Premier League was
formed ten years ago and
brought together all the
senior clubs in Gloucester,
Somerset, Wiltshire and
Bristol meaning it covers a
huge geographical area.
Bridgwater were initially
placed in Division 4 of the
Somerset Division which
they won in 2000 and went
into Division 3 where they
remained for five years.
They then finished runners
up three times in the first
four years and, in 2005,
won the Division without
being beaten all season.
They’ve managed to
remain in Premier One for
the last four seasons and
are making some fantastic
progress.

Club within Somerset.
Chris Cowley, our Youth
Co-Ordinator is an
excellent administrator. He
and his team have worked
very hard again this year
to maintain our standard.”

we’ve invested in two
portable nets and our
ground is well appointed
and maintained by two
hard working grounds
staff.
We believe our
hospitality is second to
none and visitors certainly
enjoy making the trip to

1982 and opened the
bowling until he was 42.
His two sons play for the
club at the moment.
“Kit was an amazing
man… and a fantastic
cricketer. He did
everything at the club
and was still playing up
until three years ago. I
remember being at 40 for
6 against Glastonbury
when they won the
league. Myself and Kit,
who was in his late forties
, put on 100 and he was
hooking Joel Garner and
Andy Ifill all over the
place to save the day!
I organised a golf day in
his memory recently
which involved 40 teams
and we had to shut the
whole course! It was a
great testament to him
and raised money for
Ward 9 at Musgrove Park
who looked after Kit so
well.”

between 2004 and 2009
and instilled a belief in
us. After he joined we
went up two divisions
and began to win cups.
He brought a professional
attitude to what was
already a very good
cricket club.
We’ve ended up second
this year which is an
amazing result. Nine of
our home grown players
played in the first team in
our last league game.
I’ve had lots to do with
many of them because of
my involvement with the
under 15’s. It’s taken a
while for our youth
structure to show such
results, but our hard work
is beginning to pay off.”
