20/20 win against Clifton
Nottinghamshire
side Cuckney has
just achieved its most
successful season in its 100
year history. Along with the
notable successes below, in
2010 the club has also
gained Clubmark
accreditation and its youth
teams have battled bravely.
Cricket Club Magazine
spoke to General Secretary
Jason Lucas earlier this
summer to find out what
makes Cuckney such a
competitive establishment
and his hopes for the future
at its stunning Langwith
Road home.
“We are definitely a
community club… with
the emphasis on youth &
junior cricket and provide a
safe and friendly
atmosphere together with
providing a facility for the
local community to learn
recreational skills whilst
socialising. Our doors are
open to new members at all
times.”

Celebrating

Club only last year we
created a brand new
ground to accommodate
our ever increasing junior
membership. Visiting
teams look forward to
playing at Cuckney.”
“This year we entered a
girl’s side… in the North
Notts Kwik Cricket festivals.
The girls had not played
before but soon picked up
the skills and went through
the season unbeaten. They
even had a hard ball game
at the end of the season
against Mansfield and
Pleasley. It was a great
achievement for the Club
and the girls thoroughly
enjoyed it.”

Cuckney Sportsman’s
speakers evening. Last
year we got to the final of
the Cockspur 20/20 final
played at Derbyshire
County Cricket Club. This
was a great achievement
for the Club as there were
550 teams that entered.”
“The Club has worked
very hard… and we have
just achieved Clubmark
accreditation. We have a
development plan to follow
over the next 5 years which
includes plans for extra
coaches. We are also
looking to promote all our
youngsters towards the
Notts Cricket Board with
the aim of getting a County
1st X1 player from Cuckney.
We are continuing to invest
in our facilities and will
look to build a new score
box for the recently built
new ground.”

Over the last 15 years
Cuckney Cricket Club
has developed into one of
North Nottinghamshire’s
finest cricket clubs.
However, for over 100
years it consisted of just
a wooden shed with no
electric, heating & very
limited facilities.

Cutting Action
In 1998 a new pavilion
opened which marked
the clubs centenary
year and it wasn’t long
before the club grew
its membership and
developed its now hugely
impressive youth section.
In September 2002 a
new indoors-training
centre opened providing
all-year round facilities
for the club, community
and all in the North of
the County. Equipped
with specialist flooring
and equipment it caters
for many sports and
there is a viewing gallery,
computer suite and
a disabled lift which
enables all to take part or
watch their friends and
family.

With ever increasing
numbers, the committee
set their stall out to
develop a second ground
at the club and it was
agreed that the club
would acquire land
adjacent to the indoor
cricket centre.

In 2010 the ground was
opened for the first time
which enabled all the
Cuckney teams to be
able to play at one safe
location whilst providing
first class facilities for the
youngsters.
