Thiru V. Mullaivendan, Minister for Information and Publicity was relieved<br />

of his duties as Minister with effect from the 8th March, 200l.<br />

The subject, “Information and Publicity, Film Technology and<br />

Cinematography Act, Stationery and Printing and <strong>Government</strong> Press” dealt with<br />

by Thiru V. Mullaivendan were allocated to Thiru N. Suresh Rajan, Minister<br />

for Tourism with effect from the 9th March, 2001. Consequently, he was<br />

re-designated as Minister for Information and Tourism.<br />

Dr. M. Thamizhkudimagan, was relieved of from the Council of Ministers<br />

with effect from the 1st April, 2001.<br />

The subjects “<strong>Tamil</strong> Official Language and <strong>Tamil</strong> Culture” dealt with by<br />

Dr. M. Thamizhkudimagan were allocated to Thiru Pasumpon Tha. Kiruttinan,<br />

Minister for Highways. Consequently, he was re-designated as Minister for<br />

Highways, <strong>Tamil</strong> Official Language and <strong>Tamil</strong> Culture.<br />

The subjects, “Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments” also dealt<br />

with by Dr. M. Thamizhkudimagan were allocated to Pulavar Senguttuvan,<br />

Minister for Animal Husbandry. Consequently, he was re-designated as Minister<br />

for Animal Husbandry, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.<br />

CHAPTER V<br />

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY<br />

(A) Chamber of the House and Galleries :<br />

During the period from 1996-2001 the <strong>Tamil</strong> <strong>Nadu</strong> <strong>Legislative</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong><br />

continued to meet in the <strong>Assembly</strong> Chamber at Fort St. George, Chennai-9.<br />

Galleries:<br />

There are four Galleries in the <strong>Assembly</strong> Chambers viz.,<br />

(1) Officer’s Gallery<br />

(2) Press Gallery<br />

(3) Speaker’s Gallery<br />

(4) Visitor’s Gallery including Ladies Gallery<br />

During the period under review 1,28,206 visitors witnessed the proceedings<br />

of the <strong>Assembly</strong>. The details in regard to the number of visitors for each session<br />

are given separately in Section II-Table No.IV (Page No. 459 )<br />

(B) Repairing of the Ceiling of the <strong>Assembly</strong> Chamber:<br />

Special work relating to the repairing of the Ceiling of the <strong>Assembly</strong> Chamber<br />

was undertaken under Part II-Scheme at an estimated cost of Rupees Ten lakhs.<br />

(C) Aluminium Partition and tile-flooring of Officers Room:<br />

1. Aluminium partition and tiles-flooring of all Officers Rooms was completed<br />

at an estimated cost of Rupees seven lakhs.<br />

2. Tile-Flooring of all sections of the <strong>Legislative</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong> Secretariat was<br />

also completed during the period.<br />

3. Flooring of the Veranda leading to the <strong>Assembly</strong> Chamber from Gate<br />

No.4 and Gate No.10 with special design ceramic tiles was also undertaken at<br />

an estimated cost of Rupees three lakhs.
