CTL-BioSpot Analyzers
The future of microdetection
Introducing the next generation
of high-throughput plaque and
colony counters
Traditionally, plaque and colony counting have been both
slow and inefficient. It takes days, if not weeks, before
plaques and colonies grow large enough to be seen using
traditional methods. What’s more, they had to be grown
within Petri dishes and other low-throughput plate formats,
each of which had to be counted by eye or separately
loaded into a plate reader for analysis.
Such inefficiency is a thing of the past,
thanks to CTL’s new BioSpot Analyzers.
BioSpot Analyzers allow much smaller plaques and
colonies to be detected, thus dramatically reducing the
amount of growth time required. What’s more, because
they support multiwell plate formats, they can also scan
multiple samples in rapid succession.
Reduced growth times +
high-throughput plates =
unprecedented speed
and efficiency
Versatility
BioSpot Analyzers can be used for a
wide range of applications —microbial
colony counting, viral plaque counting,
clonogenic assays, genotoxic assays,
stem cell assays, and more. With the
purchase of CTL’s ImmunoSpot ® 5.0
software package, each BioSpot
instrument can also be used for analyzing
ELISPOT assays — both single- and
double-color!
individual stained cells!

CTL-BioSpot ® S5 UV
The S5 UV Analyzer is CTL’s most
advanced model. In addition to
providing high-resolution visible light
analysis, it also incorporates a UV
light source for detecting fluoroescent
cells. It can even accommodate a
wide range of other fluorescent and
visible light applications—ELISPOT,
FluoroSpot, cell cycle analysis, cell
viability tests, apoptosis tests, and
much more!
The automated filter changer allows
up to six wavelengths of fluorescent
analysis. Its high-magnification lens
allows the user to view the the entire
well bottom within 96-well plates,
zooming in for further detail as
needed. It also provides exceptional
speed for rare event, single-cell
analysis applications—generating
results up to 120 times faster than
flow cytometry.
What is SmartLux?
BioLux? SmartLux 3D?
CTL knows that the right lighting conditions are absolutely
essential for accurate results. That’s why BioSpot Analyzers
come equipped with a variety of intelligent lighting systems,
each one specifically designed to produce even illumination
and clear, distinct images.
• SmartLux is CTL’s baseline system, combining a diffuse
upper light source with a high-intensity backlighting panel.
The dual light sources can be used independently or in
tandem, allowing one to scan a wide range of substrates
and assay types.
• The BioLux system comes with an additional darkfield
illuminator for added performance. It provides remarkable
contrast, allowing the S5 Micro to generate sharp, distinct
images of colonies as small as 25 μm in diameter!
The
• SmartLux 3D system adds a coaxial fluorescent
light source to the standard SmartLux design. SmartLux
3D gives the S5 UV machine the flexibility it needs to handle
