Cristina’s Corner 52 Networking Savvy: Stop, Look and Listen How many times have you been to a networking event and been accosted by people with their business cards overly-anxious to talk about themselves? We’ve all experienced it. What should you do in a situation like that? It may feel a bit annoying to encounter someone who feels they have to pitch themselves right away, but maybe the smart business move is to stop, look and listen. I find that stopping and really looking at the person talking to me helps me assess the situation. Is the person nervous? Maybe they’ve been out of work for a long time and feel a little desperate about their circumstances. Or perhaps they just started a new business and this is their first outing in the world of networking. Finding out who they are and what their circumstances may be, can help you keep an objective, non-judgmental view of them.
