BMB Vacuum Rolls
The vacuum roll serves to isolate the different
tensions in the coating machine without
slippage. It can be placed where an absolute
fixed point of the web is necessary for the
tension regulation and where the use of a
conventional draw roll station with press roll
causes problems. The application of vacuum
rolls is especially useful for materials which
would form wrinkles when they are under
pressure impact such as pull roll nips.

Vacuum generation
The required vacuum is produced by a fan
which is specially adapted to each case of
application. A hand-operated damper for the
regulation of the pressure and a manometer
for the pressure indication are part of the
standard scope of supply. A flexible air pipe
connects the roll with the fan.
Construction of rolls
The vacuum roll consists of a stationary interior
and a rotating exterior. The interior forms the
vacuum chamber which is linked to the fan.
The suction angle is adapted to the web wrap
angle.
Roll covering
The rotating exterior of the vacuum roll is a
tube with specially drilled holes and cross
connections. In case of aluminium surfaces,
an additional fine-mesh screen is installed. This
ensures an even air distribution and prevents
substrate markings.

There is almost no speed limit for
BMB vacuum rolls. Recently, a new speed
world record was realised thanks to a
BMB vacuum roll. Our fastest vacuum rolls
are presently used at speeds of more than
3’000 m/min (> 3300 yards/min).
No marking – even for most sensitive
substrates
The following materials are transported
thanks to BMB vacuum rolls:
all kinds of paper, metal foils, aluminium
films like PE, PP, OPP, PET, PVC and many
more.
Thanks to our exact adjustment of the roll
surface to the substrate which is to be
transported, a marking-free web guidance
can be assured; even for thinnest and most
sensitive materials.
Great variety of roll coverings, adapted to
each application
BMB has the right roll covering for each
substrate. Therefore eg.:
- completely marking-free, stainless metal
screens (chrome steel)
- rubber-covered surfaces with the correspondingly
drilled suction holes and with
many different finishes
- release coatings
- plasma- respectively ceramic surfaces
