He’s going to recreate the scene from “Talladega Nights” where Will Ferrell tries to extinguish imaginary fl ames by invoking the “magic” of Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise. It’s going to be epic. I hope Baltimore just lets h i m score so we can all see it. With that, I bring to you the fi ve greatest game- Ryan Thurman changing touchdown celebrations of all time. (And sorry, Chad, you’re only No. 2.) 5. Ian Johnson — Proposal Even though Ochocinco invented the proposal celebration, his was fake. This one wasn’t. In 2007, after Boise State defeated Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in an overtime thriller that concluded with Johnson picking up a 2-point conversion on a Statue of Liberty play, Johnson celebrated the upset by deciding on the spot to propose. It’s not that it hasn’t been done before. I’m sure countless girls have been proposed to after their husband-to-be’s team won a thrilling game. It’s a natural reaction for a guy. I imagine the thought process goes something like this: “Hooray! My team won the big game. I’ve never been this happy. I don’t want this feeling to ever stop. How shall I extend this feeling? I know. I’ll spontaneously ask my girlfriend to marry me!” Just like that, I’m sure of it. But the reason this makes the list is because it was really cool. It was nationally televised, the girl was a cheerleader standing on the sidelines getting to share in his accomplishment fi rst-hand, and then love just got added on top of it all. Awwwwww. 4. Randy Moss — Full Moon on Lambeau Some may think it crass (the NFL certainly did as they fi ned him $10,000 for the act), but I simply fi nd it humorous. Who hasn’t mooned someone at some point in their life? For some odd reason, it’s funny, and Moss didn’t even really do it, he pretended (he should have paid the NFL in Monopoly money). Nonetheless, mooning a crowd that is notoriously belligerent to visiting teams should be a perfectly acceptable celebration. If he would have merely bent over and not feigned pulling his pants down would he have been fi ned? Probably not. 3. Terrell Owens — Sharpie® I love T.O. and I’m not ashamed to proclaim it in print. He’s funny, he’s talented and man, the Cowboys are a lot less fun to watch without him. Plainview head coach Torri Hatch said the team wasn’t able to have a full practice until Friday afternoon because girls were out sick almost every day with some form of strep throat or fl ulike symptoms. Sydney Hearn and Jovanna Gamez, two key players for the Lady Dogs, didn’t even make the trip to Abilene on Saturday. Battling through the sickness, the Lady Dogs won the fi rst set Saturday against Abilene Cooper, but then lost three straight (21-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22) to fall to 2-2 in District 4-4A play. With players missing, Plainview (23-14, 2-2) had to shift players around in the rotation, which is always a diffi cult thing to do in the middle of the season, but Hatch said the team handled the challenge. “The girls adapted well and worked together as a team and were right there the whole match,” Hatch said. With Hearn and Gamez out, Kassie Schafer moved over to play the middle and junior varsity player Bailey Davis fi lled in as well. Schafer had two kills and six blocks while Davis had three digs and four blocks in her varsity debut. Abby King led the Lady Dogs with nine kills, nine digs and four blocks while Emily Welch and Kacy Richburg each added four kills. Plainview has off night against Lake View By RYAN BLAKE THURMAN Herald Sports Editor Heading into Friday night’s District 4-4A opener against San Angelo Lake View, the Plainview Bulldogs were confi dent and ready to take on all comers. The fruits of all the offseason workouts, the changes in offensive scheme and personnel management were about to pay off. And as the teams traded possessions in the fi rst quarter, it appeared as though Plainview was about to be entrenched in yet another defensive battle. With 5:37 left to play in the fi rst quarter, the Bulldog defense put up the fi rst points of the game as sophomore tackle Marcos Hinojos tackled Lake View’s John Brown three yards deep in the end zone for a safety. However, after the safety something went ter- ribly awry, and the fi rst half began slipping away from Plainview. “The fi rst half I really don’t know what in the world happened,” Plainview head coach Marcos Hinojos said. “We probably had one good series defensively, and I guess all of a sudden we thought that we were going to explode and we didn’t. We didn’t perform very well, we didn’t execute and that’s from the top to the bottom.” In contrast to what had been a consistent component of all of Plainview’s outings this season, Lake View’s defense was the dominant force Friday night. “Our linemen are some big, physical guys that do a good job,” Lake View defensive coordinator Ernie Reynolds said. “If they aren’t getting pressure we run some plays to free up our linebackers. That was really a point of emphasis this week — even if we didn’t get to (Plainview quarterback Jason Miller) we wanted to hurry him.” And hurry they did. Miller, who threw 38 passes and was picked off three times, was under duress the entire game. In addition to pressuring Miller on almost every dropback, Lake View was able to keep the Bulldogs’ playmakers from being able to break away for too many big plays. Junior Thomas Curry caught 10 passes for 135 yards, most of which came on a 52-yard reception in the fourth quarter that sparked some brief hope for the Bulldogs. Senior Marquis Jackson was held to fi ve receptions for 51 yards. Plainview’s running game also was largely a non-factor Friday night. In what had become a multi-faceted backfi eld, junior Jonathan Garza was the only back who saw signifi cant playing time. He led Plainview with See Bulldogs, Page 4B Sheffi eld throws 7 TDs as Texas Tech routs Kansas State 66-14 LUBBOCK (AP) — Steven Sheffi eld threw for 490 yards and seven touchdown passes in his fi rst career start to help Texas Tech beat Kansas State 66-14 on Saturday night. The Red Raiders backup quarterback was 33-for-41 and fi nished with TDs passes of 52, 6, 4, 72, 28, 12 and 25 yards to fi ve receivers. It was the second time this season that a Texas Tech (4-2, 1-1) quarterback notched seven passing touchdowns. Taylor Potts, out with a concussion this week, threw seven in a 55-10 win over Rice. Texas Tech put the game out of reach by halftime. The Wildcats (3- 3, 1-1) got into Texas Tech territory only once in the fi rst half and punted fi ve times. Sheffi eld, who had 370 yards by halftime, threw two TDs to Detron Lewis and Torres, and one each to Tramain Swindall, Jacoby Franks and Lyle Leong. Sheffi eld’s fi rst-half yardage set a school record, besting the 367 yards thrown by B. J. Symons against Mississippi in 2003. Three Red Raiders receivers tallied 90 yards or more. Lewis caught eight passes for 100 yards, Franks had three passes for 99 yards and Swindall got 97 yards on fi ve catches. Sheffi eld threw to 11 receivers before leaving the game with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. Texas Tech’s running game kept Kansas State off-balance. Baron Batch rushed for 86 yards on nine carries and Harrison Jeffers got 55 yards on seven carries. The Wildcats offense was anemic in the fi rst half. They sustained only one drive in the fi rst half, managing four fi rst downs and hanging onto the ball for more than six minutes on their opening possession. Grant Gregory got sacked three times — twice by Brandon Sharpe and once by Ra’Jon Henley — before Carson Coffman replaced him late in the second quarter.
