BJP flays MC Doda Excelsior Correspondent DODA, Feb 2: BJP Doda Mandal President Munshi Ram Parihar has condemned that a children grave yard (Shishu Smadhi ground) of minority in Doda town has been fenced by the Municipal Committee keeping many graves outside the fence just to cause harassment in the minds of minorities. They said graveyard with revenue people has been made to shrink as compared to grave yard of majority community. Parihar said that some bureaucrats and politicians are hell bent to malign the atmos- phere and thus depriving the public of their right. He said that no one has any right to change the old and popular names of the area. This type of arbitrary action is not acceptable in any corner of the civil society and no one is ready to keep mum on this particular point. Parihar said that it is known fact that some VDCs have been framed to counter the militancy in this state which proved successful in rural areas. These VDCs are achieving their target but the Government has never shown any honesty towards their welfare and betterment. Did riots not take place during Cong rule? Rajnath to Muslims NEW DELHI, Feb 2: With the BJP being constantly targeted over Gujarat riots, party president Rajnath Singh today alleged it was being defamed and maligned continuously under a "planned conspiracy". He said BJP did not believe in politics of divide and creating differences among people, and appealed the Muslim community to help removing the "widespread confusion". "BJP is defamed and maligned continuously under a planned conspiracy. You all have seen our government in the Centre when Atal Behari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. Who can say that we did politics by creating differences between humans?," he told a group of Muslim leaders who met him at the party office here. "Our opposition parties allege that BJP is the party which creates enmity (nafrat) between Hindus and Muslims...I want to make an appeal to you people. If anyone can remove this widespread confusion, only you people can do this and this beginning should be made from Delhi," he said. "If we want to develop this, it will not be possible till people from all sections and society come together," the BJP President said. Rajnath also addressed a gathering of farmers at the party office, highlighting the issues regarding agriculture loan and reducing profit margin. "I am aware how farmers are being neglected. In last eight years, the central government has given Rs 22-24 lakh crore to business and industries. But when it comes to giving a subsidy of Rs 50,000 crore or Rs one lakh crore to farmers, then this government backtracks. Why this should happen?," he said. Rajnath said that the country will not be able to join the list of developed nations untill farmers are prosperous and empowered here. "The so-called intellectuals and progressive people claim that India is making rapid advances in becoming intellectual capital of the world. I welcome if India becomes intellectual capital of world. Addressing a meeting of party workers in Pahalgam today she said change would start with the first vote cast in right direction that could make all political parties accountable to people for whatever good or bad they do. "PDP is an important instrument in this process as it has provided the people with a credible alternative first time in our history," she added. Mehbooba said the governance has been made hostage to vested interests of a single party in the State that corrupted both the system as well as those who ran it without challenge. She said democracy is meaningless without a competition and for the last sixty five years National Conference stifled all opposition to ensure a monopoly for itself. This resulted in a situation in which the people became mere pawns in power game that NC manipulated to its benefit through u turns, sell outs, bartering away of water and power and humiliating compromises at all crucial stages of history. She said the objective of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is only to change this environment of exploitation. She said the party showed during its brief tenure in power how relief could actually come to people and their lives could change. Referring to the dismal performance of Coalition Government Mehbooba said corruption has become the symbol of its Ministers and top leaders. Dowry victim battling for life Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Feb 2: Tasleema Akhtar, 28, resident of Ichgam village of central Kashmir's district Budgam was allegedly burnt by her husband Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Rather, his sister and mother, last week, for demand of dowry. Mother of two (aged 4 years and 18 months) is battling for her life at SMHS hospital Srinagar from last one week. The family and neighbors of the victim said that despite committing heinous crime Ghulam Mohammad was still roaming free and police have not arrested him so far. Fatima Jan, sister of the victim said that Tasleema Jan was married with Mohi-ud-Din son of Ali Mohammad of Ichgam, Budgam eight years back. She said that despite paying dowry her in -laws were still harassing her on one pretext or the other and were demanding extra dowry from her parents. Sadhotra sets Mar 15 deadline for STP completion Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 2: Minister for Planning, Development, Labour and Employment, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today set a deadline of 15th March this year for completion of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) which is part of the mega sewerage project currently under execution in Jammu city at an overall cost of Rs 108.31 crore. During his extensive inspection of the project at various segments this afternoon at Bhagwati Nagar here, the Minister asked the executing agency to undertake extensive testing of the sewerage network and initiate house connections by March 31. The STP is being constructed at a cost of Rs 28.61 crore with Asian Development Bank (ADB) assistance. The Minister was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Reconstruction Agency Saurab Bhagat and other senior officers and engineers. The CEO apprised the Minister about the salient features of the mega project, having 146 kilometer sewer network of which 106 kilometers have already been laid. He was told that house connection survey work is presently under progress and house connections will be provided to all households in phased manner within the project area free of cost. The Minister emphasized the need for expediting work on the entire project. The purpose of such schemes, he said, is to improve the hygiene in the city and to facilitate people in a big way. He said that public utility schemes assume greater significance particularly in a city like Jammu that is being thronged by over ten million Vaishno Devi pilgrims besides Kashmir bound tourists and Amarnath Yatris. Father gets life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 2: Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur, A K Koul today awarded rigorous life imprisonment to father for raping his minor daughter in village Dheeran of Ramnagar tehsil on July 25, 2012. After hearing Public Prosecutor Navneet Gupta for the State, Principal Sessions Judge observed, "the trial in this case has been concluded within less than four and a half months because the case is to my understanding is rarest of rare. We need to understand that measurement of punishment in a case of this type, where the father has raped his own minor daughter in a very brutal manner, cannot depend upon the social status of the victim or accused". "It must dependent upon the conduct of the accused, the state and age of the sexually assaulted female and the gravity of the criminal act. The socio economic status, religion etc have no role to play in such situations. The crime of rape is crime against the society, a crime against human dignity. The accused in this case has demonstrated animal tendencies and has not even spared his own daughter. Showing any leniency towards him would mean leaving his family at his mercy", the Court said. "Justice demands that courts should impose punishment befitting the crime so that the courts reflect public abhorrence of the crime. At the risk of repetition it is worth mention that accused who was supposed to protect the life and limb of his daughter reduced himself to an animal and raped his minor daughter. The court does not find any mitigating circumstance in this case which could entitle the accused to some leniency", Principal Sessions Judge said.
