comments. Recognized within Sciuropterus<br />

by Sclater (1891:37). Transferred to Pteromys at species<br />

rank by Anderson (1879:287) <strong>and</strong> Belomys by Thomas<br />

(1908b:2), Ellerman (1940:277), <strong>and</strong> Ellerman <strong>and</strong><br />

Morrison- Scott (1951:459). This species was placed in<br />

Trogopterus by Corbet <strong>and</strong> Hill (1992:307) but transferred<br />

back to Belomys by H<strong>of</strong>fmann et al. (1993:459)<br />

<strong>and</strong> recognized by subsequent authors. Found as fossil<br />

deposits from the mid- Pleistocene to Recent throughout<br />

Thail<strong>and</strong> (Chaimanee, 1998:153). Also found in China<br />

from the late Pleistocene (Zheng, 1993:264).<br />

distribution. Himalayas from eastern<br />

Nepal, Sikkim (Darjeeling [Darjilling]), to Bhutan<br />

<strong>and</strong> upper Assam (India) (Agrawal <strong>and</strong> Chakraborty,<br />

1979a:335; Ghose <strong>and</strong> Chakraborty, 1983:411; Corbet<br />

<strong>and</strong> Hill, 1992:307). The limits <strong>of</strong> the distribution <strong>of</strong> the<br />

subspecies are not well understood.<br />

comments. Recognized as a species within<br />

Belomys by Thomas (1908b:2). Subspecies rank recognized<br />

within pearsonii by Ellerman <strong>and</strong> Morrison- Scott<br />

(1951:459), Ellerman (1961:18), Corbet <strong>and</strong> Hill<br />

(1992:307), H<strong>of</strong>fmann et al. (1993:459), <strong>and</strong> Thorington<br />

<strong>and</strong> H<strong>of</strong>fmann (2005:767).<br />
