COUTURE
AT THE CLUB
Our 1st Annual Fashion Show
Fall 2011

from the president
Dear Members,
The Center Club is having a good year and we wanted you to know what’s happening. Our
“Sizzling Summer at The Center Club” was a huge success with many sold out evenings and
loads of activities. Membership continues to grow, furthered by the Membership Committee’s
goal of 2,012 members in 2012. As of September 1, membership totaled 1,887 – a far cry
from 1,582 in 2009.
Why are people joining? As you will see by this issue, The Center Club strives to bring you a spectacular dining experience. What
makes an exceptional dining experience? Fresh ingredients, seasonal menus mixed with traditional favorites and cutting-edge
culinary delights, fine wine pairings and warm hospitality top the list. Recognizing that many of our members travel extensively
and have the opportunity to savor food from all corners of the world, we are constantly researching new food trends, using our
personal travels and checking out new local/regional competition to bring you the best dining experience – at the best value.
As we move forward, “food” and “service” will be the watch words of the Club. To this end, we would like to draw your attention
to the new Bar100 small plates menu and a fresh and seasonal Grill menu. Further, be sure to visit the Main Dining Room,
where menus are constantly evolving to reflect not only your wishes, but also the latest culinary trends. There’s something for
everyone among our new options, including scrumptious vegetarian dishes in response to member demand.
We recognize that some of you may have dietary restrictions so please do not hesitate to mention your needs to your server. Chef
Bob Bannan can prepare anything to your liking, including gluten-free meals. We are using the freshest ingredients from as many
local purveyors as possible. Everything – from our fish and our crab to our salad greens and herbs – comes from local operators.
Thank you for being wonderful members and we look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Sincerely yours,
Howard B. Miller
President
IN MEMORIAM Of L. pATRICk DEERING
“He was a silent hero to many of Baltimore’s non-profits.” ~ Alex Fisher, friend of Mr. Deering
Founding Charter Member and Past President
(1979-1982), L. Patrick Deering passed away
on August 7, 2011. Mr. Deering’s commitment,
dedication and service to the Club and the City
of Baltimore is unmatched.
The Center Club will be eternally grateful for
his contributions in developing and shaping our
fine institution. Our condolences to his family,
including his son and member, Mark Deering.

ANNIVERSARY
CAMPAIGN
ANNOUNCED
It was 50 years ago next spring that The Center Club opened
its doors to a new era. As the country, and even the City of
Baltimore, struggled over civil rights, The Center Club was
created on a charter of no discrimination. On the 22nd floor
of One Charles Center, the first office building erected as part
of Baltimore’s urban renewal, the Club began as a business
dining club open to all. In 1965, there were approximately
900 members and today, nearly 50 years later, membership
stands just under 2000.
The Center Club wants to celebrate its 50th Anniversary
with 2012 members so we’re kicking off the 2012 in 2012
