Dear Members,<br />

The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong> is having a good year and we wanted you to know what’s happening. Our<br />

“Sizzling Summer at The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong>” was a huge success with many sold out evenings and<br />

loads of activities. Membership continues to grow, fur<strong>the</strong>red by <strong>the</strong> Membership Committee’s<br />

goal of 2,012 members in 2012. As of September 1, membership totaled 1,887 – a far cry<br />

from 1,582 in 2009.<br />

Why are people joining? As you will see by this issue, The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong> strives to bring you a spectacular dining experience. What<br />

makes an exceptional dining experience? Fresh ingredients, seasonal menus mixed with traditional favorites and cutting-edge<br />

culinary delights, fine wine pairings and warm hospitality top <strong>the</strong> list. Recognizing that many of our members travel extensively<br />

and have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to savor food from all corners of <strong>the</strong> world, we are constantly researching new food trends, using our<br />

personal travels and checking out new local/regional competition to bring you <strong>the</strong> best dining experience – at <strong>the</strong> best value.<br />

As we move forward, “food” and “service” will be <strong>the</strong> watch words of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Club</strong>. To this end, we would like to draw your attention<br />

to <strong>the</strong> new Bar100 small plates menu and a fresh and seasonal Grill menu. Fur<strong>the</strong>r, be sure to visit <strong>the</strong> Main Dining Room,<br />

where menus are constantly evolving to reflect not only your wishes, but also <strong>the</strong> latest culinary trends. There’s something for<br />

everyone among our new options, including scrumptious vegetarian dishes in response to member demand.<br />

We recognize that some of you may have dietary restrictions so please do not hesitate to mention your needs to your server. Chef<br />

Bob Bannan can prepare anything to your liking, including gluten-free meals. We are using <strong>the</strong> freshest ingredients from as many<br />

local purveyors as possible. Everything – from our fish and our crab to our salad greens and herbs – comes from local operators.<br />

Thank you for being wonderful members and we look forward to seeing you around <strong>the</strong> <strong>Club</strong>.<br />

“He was a silent hero to many of Baltimore’s non-profits.” ~ Alex Fisher, friend of Mr. Deering<br />

Founding Charter Member and Past President<br />

(1979-1982), L. Patrick Deering passed away<br />

on August 7, 2011. Mr. Deering’s commitment,<br />

dedication and service to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Club</strong> and <strong>the</strong> City<br />

of Baltimore is unmatched.<br />

The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong> will be eternally grateful for<br />

his contributions in developing and shaping our<br />

fine institution. Our condolences to his family,<br />

including his son and member, Mark Deering.

It was 50 years ago next spring that The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong> opened<br />

its doors to a new era. As <strong>the</strong> country, and even <strong>the</strong> City of<br />

Baltimore, struggled over civil rights, The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong> was<br />

created on a charter of no discrimination. On <strong>the</strong> 22nd floor<br />

of One Charles <strong>Center</strong>, <strong>the</strong> first office building erected as part<br />

of Baltimore’s urban renewal, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Club</strong> began as a business<br />

dining club open to all. In 1965, <strong>the</strong>re were approximately<br />

900 members and today, nearly 50 years later, membership<br />

stands just under 2000.<br />

The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong> wants to celebrate its 50th Anniversary<br />

with 2012 members so we’re kicking off <strong>the</strong> 2012 in 2012<br />

Campaign that makes <strong>the</strong> decision to join <strong>the</strong> <strong>Club</strong> an easy one.<br />

• Get <strong>the</strong> signatures of two current members<br />

• Submit reduced initiation fee and 2012 dues<br />

with application<br />

The Board of Governors meets <strong>the</strong> beginning of each month to<br />

approve all applications for membership. By being a member of<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Club</strong>, you’ll get to enjoy all <strong>the</strong> benefits of membership<br />

plus all <strong>the</strong> festivities planned for <strong>the</strong> 50th Anniversary.<br />

The Executive Forum<br />

The Executive Forum connects like-minded, experienced<br />

business owners, presidents, CEOs and executive directors<br />

do business. Monthly meetings engage members to share<br />

best practices (as well as successes and failures), discuss<br />

a number of events with outside speakers throughout <strong>the</strong><br />

at least 48 hours prior to <strong>the</strong> requested day.<br />

Electronic Devices and paper policy – To maintain<br />

<strong>the</strong> elegant atmosphere of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Club</strong>, please refrain<br />

from using cell phones, smart phones, etc. in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Main Dining Room. However, <strong>the</strong> discreet<br />

passing of papers is allowed at your dining table.<br />

Cancellation policy – Cancellations for <strong>Club</strong> events<br />

must be received no less than 48 hours prior to<br />

<strong>the</strong> event, or unless o<strong>the</strong>rwise noted, to avoid any<br />

charges. Members who cancel after this period are<br />

subject to 50% of fees.<br />

parking – The <strong>Club</strong> has a limited number of spaces<br />

between 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and is only<br />

available on a first-come, first-served basis.<br />

We apologize that we cannot reserve parking spaces<br />

for any member and request that you allow a few<br />

extra moments in your schedule should you have to<br />

utilize ano<strong>the</strong>r parking facility.
