juice in January after it was notified by a juice company in<br />

late December of the detection of the fungicide, which is not<br />

By February 2nd, the FDA had found at least 10 ppb of<br />

carbendazim in 20 shipments of orange juice. Nine of the<br />

shipments were from Canada <strong>and</strong> 11 were from Brazil. The<br />

agency detained or refused all of the shipments. The FDA has<br />

for which analysis had been completed, 46 tested negative for<br />

carbendazim. Most came from Mexico (21) <strong>and</strong> Canada (14),<br />

<strong>and</strong> Tobago, <strong>and</strong> one each from Brazil, Lebanon <strong>and</strong> Turkey.<br />

months. The feasibility of adopting such joint submissions would<br />

be reviewed after 18 months.<br />

The initiative also calls for the development of joint guidelines<br />

for residue trials <strong>and</strong> the alignment of data collection procedures<br />
