Rail <strong>in</strong> five years from now?<br />

Rich Bowie: There has been a significant push for High<br />

Speed Rail with our current adm<strong>in</strong>istration. High Speed Rail<br />

is the hot topic <strong>in</strong> <strong>North</strong> <strong>America</strong>n Transit. Our government<br />

describes a new era of tra<strong>in</strong>s, l<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g major regional corridors<br />

via fast tra<strong>in</strong>s that rival door-to-door times for air travel and<br />

put highways to shame. The Adm<strong>in</strong>istration has placed a new<br />

emphasis on build<strong>in</strong>g high-speed and <strong>in</strong>tercity passenger<br />

rail to connect communities and economic centers across the<br />

country. A fully developed passenger rail system will complement<br />

highway, aviation and public transit systems.<br />

Richard Bowie, President, <strong>Knorr</strong> Brake Corporation is responsible for the<br />

transit bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong> <strong>North</strong> <strong>America</strong> for brakes, entrance systems (IFE),<br />

and HVAC (Merak). He earned his “Bachelor of Science” <strong>in</strong> Mechanical<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g from Rutgers College of Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. After work<strong>in</strong>g for<br />

a railcar builder, he jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>Knorr</strong> Brake Corporation <strong>in</strong> 1995 and was<br />

responsible for the Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Department until he took over as<br />

President <strong>in</strong> 2007.<br />
