Vehicle Support Replacement Programme,
agreed to with the airport handling operators
in order to replace the current fleet of these
vehicles by other less contaminating vehicles
depending on technological evolution. During
the 2004-2006 period, this initiative was carried
out at the airports of Madrid-Barajas, León, and
Barcelona-El Prat, while it was implemented
in the airports of Burgos, Valencia, Melilla and
Málaga in 2007.
During 2007, Aena carried out the study
“Analysis of the potential for the implementation
of renewable energies at all the airports
in the Aena network”, within the framework
of the Spanish Strategy for Climate Change
and Clean Energy Horizon 2012 and of the
Renewable Energies Plan in Spain 2005-2010.
The conclusions obtained from this study include
the existence of a potential wind energy of
173,745 (MWh per year), as well as a potential
photovoltaic energy of 102,236 (MWh per year)
at the Aena airports, which would suppose the
reduction of approximately 84,000 tons of CO 2
as a consequence of the implementation of
these types of energy sources. This would entail
substantial investment and it is currently being
studied.
