Environment
Solar panels at Palma de Mallorca Airport.
Terminal.
In this area, we should point out, to date, the
presence of two wind turbines at the Airport
of La Palma, the pioneer at international civil
aviation level as regards the use of wind energy
as a source of primary energy, and the wind
turbine installed at the Control Centre of the Air
Navigation Regional Directorate on the island
of Gran Canaria, as well as the solar thermal
panels for the generation of sanitary hot water
and heating installed at the Palma de Mallorca
Airport in previous years.
Other installations planned to reduce the
consumption of fossil fuels at Aena are the
cogeneration plants at the airports of Bilbao and
Madrid- Barajas. As regards the cogeneration
plant of the Madrid-Barajas Airport, in 2007
it totally covered the thermal demand, and
it partially covered the electrical demand of
the New Terminal Area (T4 and T4S). This
installation functions by using the heat from
the exhaust gases from the electrical energy
motor generators and the cold from its low
temperature refrigeration in order to feed the
heating and air conditioning system. In addition,
the motors are coupled to electrical generators
which produce the electricity for the New
Terminal Area.
