El proyecto Aergas reducirá la contaminación en
Madrid-Barajas
(HCT).
y Marino.
The Aergas project will reduce pollution at
Madrid-Barajas
During 2007, Madrid-Barajas Airport developed a
project called AERGAS whose objective consists of
reducing the level of acoustic and gas emissions of
the vehicles and machinery which operate inside an
airport, through the design and development of new
models which use natural gas as fuel, progressively
replacing the diesel-oil motors of ground assistance
vehicles by electrical and natural gas motors. To
achieve this, there is a compressed natural gas station
which will provide service to the first prototypes.
Among the existing agreements, within the
area of greenhouse gas emission reduction,
mention should be made of the Agreement
on Environmental Collaboration signed by the
Regional Government of Madrid (Council for
the Environment) and Aena in order to control
air quality and emissions at the installations
of the airport system of Madrid-Barajas, by
facilitating the exchange of information and
establishing common control criteria in the
surveillance networks. To achieve this, the
Airport has a network for the surveillance of
air quality (REDAIR) which continually and
automatically controls the air quality within the
airport operation areas. The network has three
fixed automatic stations (located inside the
airport area), which evaluate the concentrations
of sulphur dioxide (SO 2 ), nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ),
carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O 3 ), suspended
particles (PM10) and total hydrocarbons (THC)
in the air in real time. It also has a mobile
laboratory for measuring the air quality showing
the same parameters. Once validated, the results
obtained are published daily in the environment
section of the Madrid-Barajas Airport, on the
Aena website, and a file for the exchange
of information on air quality is incorporated
and subsequently sent to the city council,
the Regional Government of Madrid and the
Ministry of the Environment and the Rural and
Marine Environment.
