Dioniso “speaks with more than a suspicion of weariness from this now concluding
conflict.
s l Av e leAder. Come, god
Of seven paths: oil, wine, blood, spring, rain
Sap and sperm. O dirge of shadows, dark-shod feet
Seven-ply crossroads, hands of camwood
breath of indigo, O god of the seven roads
farm, hill, forge, breath, field of battle
Death and the recreative flint... (Soyinka, 1973: 81).
exclama Cadmo:
Dionysus is just. but he is not fair!
Though he had right on his side, he lacks
Compassion, the deeper justice (Soyinka, 1973: 93).
corrompida:
understanding of these things is far beyond us.
Perhaps... perhaps our life-sustaining earth
Demands... a little more... sometimes, a more
Than token offering for her own needful renewal,
And who, more than we should know it? for all too many
The soil of Thebes has proved a most unfeeling
Host, harsh, unyielding, as if the dragon’s teeth
That gave it birth still farms its subsoil.
They feel this, same as I, even through calloused soles.
O kadmos, it was a cause beyond madness, this
